Resolved Playing back-up disc with VLC vs PowerDVD shows different initial menus (region?) (VLC is culprit)

That is true about what you get versus what you pay for free software. :) I use MPC-HC myself and I've encountered a few oddities here and there with DVD playback issues. Some DVD's just don't start at all, stuck at a blank screen, or they play with audio but a blank screen. Some navigation...

Resolved Playing back-up disc with VLC vs PowerDVD shows different initial menus (region?) (VLC is culprit)

VLC is a bit of an odd duck. I've seen cases where it skips certain video title sets. For instance, many times I've seen it skip over the copyright warnings and the company logos. Sometimes, the previews that air before the main menu. So, I have to wonder if VLC does have the ability to skip...

    Have Gun will Travel

Hm, that is interesting. The unset region only caused one disc in that entire boxed set to choke. And why that one particular disc? If it were going to be an issue, you'd think it would have affected other discs long before now in that boxed set. Anyway, try setting the region as was...

    ANYDVD exception error on startup

I wouldn't place too much faith in the ASUS people who make their software. I e-mailed their tech support about their BW-16D1HT BD burner. I wanted to know if there was a firmware 3.11 that was shipping from their factories because 3.10 was the last firmware package released for updating...

Confirmation on Basic ripping scenario sequencing

I'm not that familiar with CloneDVD, but I still have to question if that would work. I've seen Disney structurally protected DVD's like My Neighbor Totoro that when AnyDVD decrypted to ISO, it was entirely unusable for playing, even when mounted virtually. So, it would seem to me the ISO...

Confirmation on Basic ripping scenario sequencing

Be aware for any structurally protected DVD's, it is not recommended to rip to ISO as the contents may be unplayable. DVD's are recommended to rip to disk. As for BD, I read somewhere on these forums ISO is recommended over ripping to disk, but I don't know why. I rarely rip BD's.

App wont open, doesn't matter what dvd is on my drive, still wont open.

I don't want to sound pendantic, just covering all possibilities. The AnyDVD icon isn't just "hidden" on the Notification tray, is it? Even if it was, inserting a DVD with AnyDVD running should, at least, open the disc info window.

App wont open, doesn't matter what dvd is on my drive, still wont open.

With a DVD inserted into the PC drive, can it be played by any DVD player software? Does File Explorer recognize a disc as being inserted? Can you right click on the DVD and choose Open in new window and get a list of the disc's root directory contents? I'm basically just trying to make sure...

Ripping Scratched DVDs (e.g., ignore errors?) (Not a specific AnyDVD problem)

My strategy when purchasing DVD sets from Amazon that have damaged discs in them is to purchase a 2nd set and hold on to the damaged set. Then, when the 2nd set arrives, you test the discs that were previously damaged in set 1 from set 2. If they're undamaged, swap out the good discs from set...

Ripping Scratched DVDs (e.g., ignore errors?) (Not a specific AnyDVD problem)

Now, this is somewhat of an esoteric solution and one I've never tried. Supposedly, it can work: toothpaste. They say putting toothpaste in scratches on DVD's can help with read errors. This could be complete bunk as I've never tried it or did any further research into it. Just something I...

World On Fire Season One R1 produces 12 GB VIDEO_TS

I think I may have discovered a workaround last night. I loaded the 12 GB VIDEO_TS into DVDShrink and there are 2 "main" streams. A 3 hour stream and one that is only like 2. Discs 1 and 2 have 3 episodes each, so the 3 hour stream is probably the "true" one. So, I simply replaced the 2 hour...

World On Fire Season One R1 produces 12 GB VIDEO_TS

There's something up with World On Fire Season One R1. AnyDVD detects structural protection and Disc 1 and 2 VIDEO_TS are 12 GB in size. This is obviously wrong. This was a PBS release, which I believe produced some DVD's that produced similar issues. I see there's a new beta, 8.6.8.1...

Not a RedFox Issue PC locks up during ripping, will this affect ripping process?

Yes, I only mentioned ISO's because I was uncertain how the OP extracted their content. I took into account they might have done ISO instead of Rip to disk. I learned what you said the hard way. :) Now, I always extract to folder.

Ripping Scratched DVDs (e.g., ignore errors?) (Not a specific AnyDVD problem)

There's an older piece of software called DVDReMake which can "repair" DVD's with incomplete .VOB extracts. What I do with TV shows that have scratches, etc. resulting in bad reads is extract all files as fully as possible and let DVDReMake "repair" the DVD structure. Episodes or parts of...

Not a RedFox Issue PC locks up during ripping, will this affect ripping process?

Don't know about CloneDVD, but if you did rip to ISO in AnD, DVDShrink has the ability to open DVD Video ISO files directly.

Not a RedFox Issue PC locks up during ripping, will this affect ripping process?

If you want to know, use DVDShrink or CloneDVD to load the VIDEO_TS, inferring you're ripping to disk instead of ISO, and see if both programs finish loading the VIDEO_TS. If they do, you're pretty much okay, but you can write out new output with either program for more assurance. DVDShrink...

DVD copies out ok and plays, but its 20Gb? (or more)

That's true. I hadn't thought of that because I don't use that software, but CloneDVD2 does work. So do other competitors, too, probably, but I won't mention those. ;)

DVD copies out ok and plays, but its 20Gb? (or more)

Yes, for any DVD discs AnD returns as having some kind of structural protection on them, you really need to use the Ripper for those. Avoid the ISO creation function, as well. While you can, as you've seen, get away with just a File/Windows Explorer copy while AnD is resident, it isn't...

Chicago Med Season 8 Disk 5 Problem

I wasn't sure, but I thought the OP had mentioned something about virtual machines. I don't have any experience with VM's, but could there be some kind of hiccup in there causing a particular problem with that one disc? I would lay it down as either a defective disc, a problem with the...

Something I possibly overlooked. Are you running AnyDVD in a virtual machine?
