What exactly does lifetime mean? 5 years 10 years, one year???
I bought a lifetime subscription to AnyDVD and what happened?
Why did AnyDVD go out of business?
I want to buy a lifetime subscription for Redfox but am Afraid the same will happen...

The story of why Slysoft went away is well documented here and all over the web.
The Redfox crew has taken several steps to avoid a repeat.
What steps? If they told you, they'd have to kill you for knowing too much. :)

LMFAO..Good one..:D:D

Wrong section, moved to license section. The anydvd section is reserved for disc related problems. Please read the available stickies and news articles on the what, when, why, how. Everything you need to know is already available.

You know any software can end tomorrow not just RedFox or you can die in your sleep tomorrow. This narrow world view is yours alone and affects no one else or RedFox. Buy or don't buy that is your choice. 7.6.9.5 has no OPD access so if you want access you will have to buy a RedFox subscription or Lifetime license those are your choices-there is no freebie here.

Exactly the same will happen. They just changed the name because they wanted for us to purchase new "Lifetime" subscription.

No they didn't. They're was no name change. Slysoft got shut down. Please do your research by reading the stickies, 3rd party news articles and more... I will not allow anyone accusing the staff of such behavior when it's certainly not true.

Just as been explained at the top of this page, please check online--it doesn't have to be this Forum--why Slysoft was shut down.

You can Google "slysoft shutdown aacs-la," for example, or "slysoft shut down mpaa," for starters.

If anyone is to blame, it's those two organizations, and the US Government being a lap dog for both.

Although no one can predict the future, many precautions have been taken so the samething will not happen. There are no guarantees. I see you have not kept up with all the news articles that have been posted all over the internet about the govts involvement in Slysofts take down. But thats okay, you just do not understand the issues that Slysoft faced. Now the developers have taken over the program, they are a Project now and not a company. A closed source project. If you still have a fear buy a 1 year license, and see if you are happy. If I can be of any help, do not hesitate to PM me. Thank you.

You're right! And...

The CIA killed Pres. Kennedy!
The Twin Towers were brought down by missiles not airplanes!
Fluoride in drinking water is a commie threat!

(Sorry, mods, since we're once again entertaining unfounded conspiracy theories, thought I'd toss a few more on the pile ;) . Just can't take or treat this topic seriously anymore...)

Hmmm, I purchased anyDVD license many years ago when it was not too old shall we say, 11th December 2008 at 20:16 to be exact, not exactly cheap back then, well to me anyway, but it was for life so I thought it would be worth it. I appreciate laws change and sites do get shutdown. However, to remove suspicion of setting up another site thats, lets face it its identical to the last one in about every sense, simply as a money making venture, you should honour those who have already paid for a lifetime license by replacing it with a new one that works with your latest versions. This is the only honest way. You say you have safeguards in place but history shows these have no more worth than the paper its written on, hence we are here? you even admit it. Yet here we are, willing to take the 'lifetime license' holders money yet again. You should of given them a new lifetime license on proof of ownership of the previous version, not one that only covers some of the versions and not the latest ones. Thats fair play. And thats the honourable thing to have done. Slysoft and Redfox are two of the same, no matter how you dress it up, they are one of the same, same people, same software, same site format and layout. same download format etc etc etc. All thats happened is youve put a bandits mask on the fox, seems appropiate. You can call it any name you like but they are the same. Softwares evolved but does same as slysoft did before it was taken down. Anything other than honouring peoples licenses is a scam. You can call it what you like ,dress it up in what you like but at the end of the day ...its still a scam. So keep on scamming folk if it makes you sleep soundly at night and feeding off those who for whatever reason need to make a copy. This whole affair has left a very sour taste in ones mouth. Slysoft..oops Redfox, you should hold your head in shame. Its a scam, a good one , but a scam. Until Im in dire need of a backup, I'll resist renewing my license...even at a discount. A sad day.

Wall of text crits you for over nine-thousand, you die!

now on to business at hand

However, to remove suspicion of setting up another site thats, lets face it its identical to the last one in about every sense,

The site isn't even remotely the same
simply as a money making venture

wrong again
you should honour those who have already paid for a lifetime license by replacing it with a new one that works with your latest versions

Wrong again, SLYSOFT sold the licenses. Slysoft got shut down, ask the ceo of that.

You say you have safeguards in place but history shows these have no more worth than the paper its written on

Wrong again, you don't know which measures slysoft's ceo took (not a lot of them) and you definitely don't know which ones redfox has in place. The one i know of for sure is 1 more slysoft didn't have in place. Don't say things you can't back up.

Slysoft and Redfox are two of the same

Wrong again, If they were the same then all the same staff would be there down to the CEO. They didn't all go over and definitely not the CEO.
Anything other than honouring peoples licenses is a scam.

It's not a scam. Blame the USA and their MPAA/AACS-LA civilian authorities with too much power. THEY are the ones that shut slysoft down. THEY are the only ones to blame. The Slysoft CEO faught them for over half a decade!

No it's not, please do your research properly before you go make such accusations. There's numerous stickies here, and news articles on third party websites detailing what happened. Not Redfox's fault you didn't read any of them.

Your diatribe is completely without merit. It was a sad day when Slysoft was taken down by the powers that be. The developers didn't get paid, the site was ready to close. Then you would have V7.6.9.5 and thats it. No updates , nothing for the future. Would you have preferred that, because if that's what you prefer just sit on your old version. The Developers have to eat also. RedFox is not Slysoft. RedFox is a closed source project. If you choose not to buy a license that's your prerogative, but please don't speculate on things that you choose to ignore. I hope you change your mind and join the project, if not, have a nice day.

You know any software can end tomorrow not just RedFox .

That's not quite what happened here, though, is it: Red Fox is the same developers using the same codebase as SlySoft, but refusing to honour the "lifetime" license.

YOUR facts are in error.

The lifetime was with SlySoft. That business entity no longer exists, rendering any agreement legally null and void.

The RedFox team has bills to pay, and need to be compensated for their continuing work. AnyDVD didn't stop being updated. Would you work for free?

Yeah, just like the copyright holders of all those discs we're pirating need to be compensated for their continuing work ;)

I think the answer seems clear: a lifetime license from these people is not to be trusted. The 3 year one seems a safer bet.
Speak for yourself but making a physical or digital copy of a disc YOU OWN is NOT PIRATING period.

I personally only use AnyDVDHD for backing up/ format shifting my own BluRay & DVD collection, all of which I have bought, but to argue that all users of this software are so scrupulous would be beyond parody. And clearly, expecting integrity from its developers was a bit naive of me.

If and I mean IF resfox does shutdown for who knows why..... You can kiss the best tool on the planet goodbye. If you guys are worried buy a year. You guys who bitch do not understand the power of this software. I have done with coders and breakout boxes bluray backups but it takes a ton of tech to dig into hdmi and digital sound and coding and production to do what redfox does with one click. And the support staff is amazing. Enough said.

I do understand the power of the software. I also understand that my 'lifetime' license for it no longer works.

I'd be amused to learn how many of the crowing trolls on this forum haven't actually purchased their licenses, but used hacks or torrent sites to bypass it or obtain a cracked license ;)

The Antiguan authorities shut Slysoft down.
It's noteable nobody considers the odds are it wasn't exactly sly to stay in Antigua from the moment on the CEO was sentenced in accordance with Antiguan law - not US law. But they felt to be in the right, so they stayed with "Buddy Casino".

They thought to be untouchable - wrong (not to mention the Wikileaks insights).
They pushed their luck - and lost.
Not the slightest wisp of self-criticism that they should have reacted by the time it was obvious Antigua isn't the place to be anymore.
