AI Scanner

That's too much work for me. It's easier to keep an updated list of what discs won't work with Anydvd. And I do. There are stickies at the top of the forum.

O.K. That's even a better idea

Oh! I've seen that you have added "Mr. & Mrs. Smith". I will try my utmost to burn the DVD 1:1 correctly but this time I will disable the AI Scanner as James recommended me.

It would be good if you also added "Apocalypto" to your list because when the AI Scanner was enabled it was possible to burn the DVD but the DVD was more than incorrect... and when the AI Scanner was disabled CloneDVD 2 was not able to create an image. It would be interesting to experience whether it will works when you rip the DVD with AnyDVD (disabled AI Scanner) and burn it with CloneDVD 2?! (I'll be very busy the next few days so I will see whether I'll find some time to do so...)

I'm not convinced the problem you're having with that disc is related to Anydvd. I suspect the problem you're having with that disc is either related to a Clonedvd bug--or, more likely, your choice of blank media. But it would be helpful if you also uploaded the .zip file for that disc.

Well that's hardly an Anydvd issue since the AI scanner should be enabled by default.

Actually, your comment here underscores a lack of understanding of how the AI scanner works, and I'm not willing to divulge that information unless James does so first.

The AI scanner should be enabled unless you experience problems.

James just said that he is "glad to have introduced an option to disable AI Scanner right from the start"... Without interpreting too much I would say that the AI Scanner is not to 100 percent perfect.

You're right. It's not perfect. There are some bugs.

Regardless, the AI scanner should be enabled by default.

The AI scanner wasn't really intended to be turned off an on by the user. Can you imagine all the people writing to Slysoft wondering whether the AI scanner should be turned on or off for every disc that is released? Turning the AI scanner off is a kludge, and if a disc doesn't work with the AI scanner enabled, then I consider that situation to be a bug in Anydvd.

I don't personally own the DVD. But I will get it again in few days.

The time will show whether these bugs can be fixed. But I don't want SlySoft to create an AI that's based on the intelligence of the machines in "Terminator":D

O.K. Thx...
I'm just wondering why AnyDVD can't handle the Mr. and Mrs. Smith although the movie doesn't belong to one of the newest...
You are saying, it does not work when the AI scanner is disabled???

No! It does not work when the AI Scanner is enabled with CloneDVD 2. CloneDVD 2 tells me right at the start when I'm creating an .iso file "bad DVD-Structure repairing, please wait"! When the AI Scanner is disabled this message does not appear but I didn't try to copy the disc due to your promise to order the DVD Mr. and Mrs. Smith to check what's wrong with AI Scanner.
In many DVD's with strong copy protection there is also a problem with CloneDVD 2 because then, when the AI Scanner is enabled CloneDVD 2 is not able to remove the LayerBreak. Do you think that the AI Scanner is responsible for that or Elaborate Bytes (I've already discussed that issue with webslinger but I just wanted to inform you)?

Then disable it. Where is the problem? I told you, I'll look into the problem.

My problem was that I was a bit confused with the AI Scanner since I thought it should be enabled in any case.

Dear forum-members!
I do have a question concerning the AI Scanner:
When AnyDVD analyzes the DVD "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and the AI Scanner is set on very fast (recommended) it tells me the following message: Found & removed 8 potential bad sector protections!
Now when you want to create an .iso-file with CloneDVD 2 it tells you bad DVD-structure repairing, please wait
In case of a deactivated AI Scanner there are not any problems with CloneDVD 2.
What error message does CloneDVD 2 display, if you cancel the scan?

You mean if I DISABLE the AI Scanner? If I do so there is no problem creating an .iso - file with CloneDVD 2.9.1.2.
Only when the AI Scanner is ENABLED CloneDVD 2 tells me "repairing bad DVD - structure, please wait"

I'm not an technician but I would say that the AI Scanner finds 8 potential bad sector protections and removes data that is not bad and in which consequence the DVD - structure gets destroyed.

But James, as I have posted several times in the forum there is still a big bug:
In some movies (Casino Royale [region 2], Contractor [region 2]) it is necessary to have the AI Scanner enabled. But then, CloneDVD 2 doesn't remove the LayerBreak. If I disable the AI Scanner then CloneDVD 2 removes the LayerBreak but after some time it has problems reading the DVD (due to the disabled AI Scanner). Couldn't you fix this problem as soon as possible so that the LayerBreak can be removed in any case?

Yes, if you click "cancel", what error message does CloneDVD post?

No, this is a CloneDVD problem, but the Swissboys are aware of the problem.

There is not any problem or error message creating an iso - file of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" when the AI Scanner is DISABLED with CloneDVD 2. There is only a problem when the AI Scanner is ENABLED.

(I've already written this earlier). ;)

Can you tell us in the forum when there will be an AnyDVD update (for DVD's not BluRay or HD)?

I understand that, but to fix the AI Scanner, could you please tell me the CloneDVD error message, when the scanner is enabled?

Plato, answer Jame's question: if you click "cancel" when Clonedvd gives you the message "repairing bad disc structure", what error message does CloneDVD give you then?
