BD/HD DVD ISO Image Creation

Yes I am an XP-user!
I read the thread you posted but I found out that the Toshiba file is a file system driver for HD-DVD so I wonder why it would help me with my problem which is about a BD?
Sorry if my question seems to be stupid but I was just wondering...:)

It's a UDF driver which works for reading both HD DVD and BD file structures. Trust me, install that and your problem will go away. :)

That's ok everybody can ask question.

As for question Toshiba Driver is basically file system drive which will allow Xp to look contents of UDF 2.5. UDF 2.5 is used on HD-dvd and Blu-ray disc.

In other words go ahead and install it , you should be fine

That's partially accurate, Hawk.

From this article:

The Blu-ray Disc format has selected UDF 2.5 as the primary file system standard for burning data or videos onto discs, while the HD DVD format has chosen the comparable UDF 2.6 format. CyberLink's burning applications - Power2Go and InstantBurn - support discs using the aforementioned UDF formats, ensuring disc writing and playback compatibility between PCs and CE devices.

Nonetheless, that dirver supports both UDF 2.5 and UDF 2.6 so he won't have a problem reading discs in either format with that driver installed.

Sorry, it's me once again.
I did a lot of research now but I can't find the UDF 2.5 to download, anywhere.
In the thread you posted, it says that I can get it from the Toshiba support website but I can't find it there.
Please be so kind and let me now how to get this file.

I have seen references in the past to this mysterious UDF 2.6 driver, but Toshiba published a 2.5 and I've never ever seen a 2.6 anywhere!!!???

Completely unnecessary. The Toshiba UDF driver will read a 2.6 disc just fine. (HD DVD uses 2.6).

I have updated the first post with a new warning. It would seem that some people do not understand that you can't just simply burn a protected ISO. I thought this would be obvious, but, apparently not. In the case where your goal is to burn the ISO back to a blank disc, you MUST remove the protection by keeping AnyDVD enabled during the initial rip. Well, there is another way but it's a bit more involved. Basically if you mount the protected ISO you can do a disc copy on it directly to the blank media. This should also work, however, I've never tried it as I have no burner. In any case, you MUST remove the protection for a burned backup. I use my method simply because I have no intention of burning them. They're for hard drive backups only in my case. I hope this clears up some confusion.

Can I assume the method of creating protected ISOs is also applicable to DVDs with special protection of which AnyDVD may need be updated to decrypt those DVDs?

Edit: Actually answering my own question, it doesn't as Imgburn cannot bypass structure-protected DVDs. Haven't tried Clonecd

I used SamuriHL ISO guide for BD and for DVD, I do the same except UDF choose 1.2 and Enable AnyDVD while "Create image from disk" in Imgburn. From now on, all my back up will be ISO and as soon as I mount the ISO I want, PDVD launch and pop corn time :)

im the same way. i just transfered all my DVDs to my computer and there all in ISO format its much easier to find them that way since i have about 1000 titles and all you gotta do is click on the title and there you have a movie right away

No, you can NOT create a protected image of a DVD with any program and decrypt it after the fact. Very different encryption than what's on HD DVD/BD's.

SamuriHL,

But in order to have the DVD back up, we need to have AnyDVD decrypt while we backing up, right? For a ease and all the ISO format, doesn't matter BD or DVD, going forward, I think this is the way to do that for DVD, right?

On the other word, when you backing up your DVD, do you have AnyDVD HD enable and use Imgburn to do it as "create image from disk"?

Ok, let's get to the heart of this issue and break the confusion.

First, HD DVD/BD can be decrypted from an ISO. So whether you create protected ISOs or not, AnyDVD can decrypt the mounted ISO.

Now, DVD. Whole different ball game. AnyDVD *MUST* be enabled while making an ISO. Otherwise the result will be bogus and unplayable. And you can just use read mode with AnyDVD enabled to get an unprotected DVD ISO.

SamuriHL,

Thanks for the feedback. I used your method for both HD DVD/BD and DVD except disable AnyDVD for the HD DVD/BD and enable AnyDVD for DVD.

Thanks again!

That's the perfect way to do it IMO. :)

SamuriHL, I'm curious why you don't use the ripper built in to AnyDVD?

I am just getting ready to start ripping BR/HD, and my first attempt, using AnyDVD HD on the HDDVD of 300, resulted in an error about 1/2 way through. I also tried another tool (I forget what) and got the same result. I'm going to try ImgBurn tonight, but is there a specific reason you recommend ImgBurn?

AnyDVD build in "back up movies in hard drive" function rip the BD in files format but not ISO format. Please refer to this post for the reason. If you looking for the files way and play in PDVD 3319a only, yes, use that way. But if you want to use anything after 3319a and PDVD8 going forward I afraid ISO way is the way you want to do it via ImgBurn.
