Hello good. AnyStream 1.5.3.1 beta is out for all OS including Linux. But I'm on Archlinux. Is there a way to get it? It's urgent 🙏🙏🙏

I wanted to test quickly on my dedicated (Debian 11) and I came across this error. I installed through apt install AnyStream_1.5.3.1_amd64.deb
Code:
AnyStream: error while loading shared libraries: libjpeg.so.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

And when I try to uninstall it
Code:
AnyStream: installed anystream package pre-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 1

If you have any idea where the problem comes from, thanks.

i confirm

I have the same problem with 1.5.3.1 in docker (dev branch) can't resolve it .... on debian 11 also ... somebody has a fix ? I can't find a valid libjpeg library valid for anystream on debian 11 with this new version

That's literally a Debian problem:-

I am going to preface what I say with the fact that I know very little about all the Linux distributions. But I do know that there are over 600 of them and again I am no expert, but it stands to reason that any program not just AnyStream will not be applicable to every single distribution. Just my personal thoughts. Use the distributions that AnyStream works perfectly on. It's what I would do.

And a Gentoo problem.

did find an overlay that supplies a package to build libjpeg-turbo with the jpeg8 api alongside the repo version... https://gpo.zugaina.org/media-libs/libjpeg8

And a fedora problem... (also fixable via a 3rd-party repo)

Operating System: Fedora 38

AnyStream 1.5.2.9 was executable.
ldd shows the dependency to /usr/lib64/libjpeg.so.62.3.0

AnyStream 1.5.3.2 startup failed.
The outdated library libjpeg.so.8 is missing. A compatibility package for this version of the library does not exist for Fedora.

Will the next update be delivered with the current library support again?

I think your point is lost on me... If N of M distributions (where N <<< M) choose not to provide common packages that has many users of THOSE distros startled, is that not the distros' problem? 🧐

Well, N may be < < < M, but a) N is probably much greater than the 3 distros mentioned so far, considering that a lot of distros are ultimately Debian derivatives... and b) even without that, the market share of N isn't exactly insignificant compared to the remaining set of M.. I mean, which should be given more consideration here... Debian and Fedora? or Hannah Montana Linux and Justin Bieber Linux?

My point was that it seems to me that there's a pattern of major distros having already dropped support, years ago, for this version of libjpeg in favor of libjpeg-turbo and its .62.3.0 version.

What's your definition of "major"?

Yes, I mentioned that in post 127. :giggle:
sorry, dude. missed that.

edit:
I cannot imagine 1,100 versions of an OS. Sounds like the stuff of nightmares.
The top 3 account for 60% of users, the final 1,097 account for 40%.
That's the most extreme version of the '80:20' rule I have every seen.

Its an impossible task to make a version of AnyStream for every distribution.

Just having a version for Linux is a major step and it is much appreciated!
Got me out of my Windows VM.
