List of UHDs currently UN-supported in AnyDVD

1.1.7.8 Scanner released - MIN version

That's enough of that. All find key functionality has been permanently removed from the Scanner. There were WAY too many bugs. The Scanner is back to basics, reporting whether a title is unsupported, still unsupported, or supported. That's it. All reports are considered valid. The Scanner no longer cares where the key comes from. It only cares about what AnyDVD reports.

Sorry to hear that.

Hopefully this doesn't signal the return of "flash" listings, where keys are manually generated for newly-listed titles and they have to be removed 5 minutes after posting.

I have no control over that. But I'm not going to spend infinite amounts of time trying to get the Scanner to do something it wasn't designed for. Its job is to report the status of AnyDVD with a title. And it does that.

Surprised this is coming up as unsupported as it's a pretty old disc by now. Apparently I never tried to rip it before...

I have no control over that.

Well generally it originated once you were able to generate keys from information made available from new-title submissions.

Which, ofc, is a good thing...

Its job is to report the status of AnyDVD with a title. And it does that.

I don't think anyone is arguing with that - lol.

Ostensibly, you veered into key-making territory to incorporate whatever methods you discovered for generating keys as a courtesy for Scanner users.

Now that it's removed, guess I was asking if you will be doing that on a title-by-title basis again.

But in the end, if that means the return of 5-minute listings, so be it.

The most important thing is that a title get support as quickly as it's possible.

I hope the methods you use can at some point be formalized, maybe not by the Scanner but perhaps in AnyDVD itself.

Whether that's something that could come in the future or is even possible for the future, we don't know.

But it would probably be the best possible outcome.

But it would probably be the best possible outcome.

Some could, some can't. I don't just use one method to find keys for people. However, I've had much less success with my new method than with the one I tried to bake into the Scanner. The problem is that the Scanner is a very well-timed orchestra of events it doesn't control. Once you start messing with that, lots of things start to break as I've seen in the recent reports (until I shut off the key finding in 1.1.7.7 and released 1.1.7.8 to remove it completely). When you break the fundamentals of the Scanner and what it was designed for, then no matter how useful the functionality is, it doesn't belong there.

If we don't see a new implementation of the key checking that the Scanner was trying to do, then I'll consider writing a separate tool for that.

The other method for finding keys is far more involved and has had very limited success so far, sadly. I'm still willing to toy with it but it's not a surefire way to acquire keys for people. And that's definitely not something AnyDVD could implement.

Very true.

Well, maybe there's SOME success with my new key finding method

Maybe because that particular title is pretty old, so there was bound to be some variation of a working key already out there?

Not in this case, no. This came from the new key finding venture I've been testing. We've had more success with it than it seems. There's an outstanding case I'd like to understand but ultimately it's not stopping me from continuing to try. So far it's worked on 3 or 4 titles.

What was wrong with the previous method of finding keys that you switched to this new one?

T

Uh, switch? No, I don't think you understand. This isn't an "either or" kind of thing.

Knock yourselves out. I'd probably recommend running that before posting a Scanner report. Just saying.

Trial and error but still a good approach. (y)
