ReClock 1.8.6.7

In my trials i always changed the volume over my AVR: (WASAPI exlusive mode)

Vista32/Creative Xi-Fi over analog cables to my Onkyo.

Vista32/Ati5770 over HDMI to my Denon.

Seven64/Ati 5770 over HDMI to my Denon.

Seven64/Clarkdale(i3540/H55) over HDMI to my Denon.

nVidia 9600GT+(i540/H55) combo over HDMI to my Denon.

And here is my guide:

HOW TO CONFIG FFDSHOW AND RECLOCK FOR HD AUDIO:

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=152520

BTW mark i should say you must have an option to change your speakers volume level separately; you don't need to have a master volume button on your Power Amply.

It should be under setup menu > main setup > volume control (or something like this.)

If not, you need a Pre-Amply asap :D

In my case the chosen connection (analog vs digital) seems to make the difference.
yes, many manufacturers are willing to give up SQ to offer volume control to their customers...that avoids a lot of useless calls to their tech support.

the ICEnsemble Envy24 drivers kill every volume control in KS, whatever in analog or S/PDIF...but yes, it's very rare. OTOH a variable volume line-out output has become a pre-amp all of a sudden, because a true line-out is supposed to be 0dB 2Vrms.

you can see RME boasting about 48bit volume control, you can rest assured that consumer soundcards don't bother w/ this IMO....who needs more than 16int anyway? :p

There is nothing wrong with changing the volume with the Windows mixer in Vista or Windows 7. 32-bit floating is enough. WASAPI exclusive in my case bypasses the Windows master volume with digital connections (SPDIF, HDMI) but not with analog (Xonar DX and my mobo audio).

And before others start blasting the lowly Xonar (not to mention the unmentionable "mobo" audio), first, realize what 96 dB of dynamic range actually is in real life, and how much DR you can achieve in our own home environment, given our own noise floor. There is no reason to play the numbers game when in reality you'll have to be hearing a jet engine in your home to maybe hear a difference.

the WAVE windows mixer is indeed 32fp, but it still can't be made bit-perfect(unlike XP if you max out all the sliders): Homebrew CMI 8738 drivers - Hydrogenaudio Forums

AFAIK, the Windows master volume is not done by windows, it's the drivers engineers to implement it from scratch...if you're lucky it will be handled by the driver in the hardware(a register will set the voltage of an output variable gain amp).

if you're unlucky, things will get ugly :D

and it's not only a matter of SNR, as THD/THD+N/IMD are down the drain on mobo chips.

Bits in audio are not related only to dynamic range. They're also related to resolution.
In fact, if you're recording a jet engine, you would not need more than a few bits, because you'd not hear anything bellow that level... but nobody here is listening to jet engines (except when watching Top Gun).;)

Can anyone tell the resolution difference?

leeperry: since you're linking to HA... love if you'd opened a thread there about this ;)

you do it, I've been banned for violating their TOS(for saying that KS sounds better than KMixer on XP, because we all know that its distortion is inaudible..yet very much measurable )

but IME and in a ProTools instructor's opinion, 24bit is great if you plan on post-processing(resampling, EQ, etc)...but for casual listening it's completely meaningless: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f133/24bit-vs-16bit-myth-exploded-415361/
Remember, even a recording with 60dB dynamic range is only using 10bits of data, the other 6bits on a CD are just noise. So, the difference in the real world between 16bit and 24bit is an extra 8bits of noise.
the reason why 24bit often sounds much better than CD is superior mastering(Depeche Mode's Violator SACD for instance).

Hi James,
this issue still exists:

... but i must say with my above HW, i have to restart my PC or at least log off > log on again while passing from lossy/lossless formats to PCM.

For instance when i restart i can open THD, DTS-HD and get sound both of them but i can not get any audio from PCM.
If i restart or re-login, i get the sound from PCM this time with the same config and i loose lossy/lossless formats' sound this time. :bang:

When i uninstall reclock, no problem leaves. I can shift between PCM and bitstream and always get sound.

I know 1.8.6.8 will workaround.

Thanks.

PS. Trials made on MPC-HC and GraphStudio.

James i wanna report very weird thing:

When i leave ReClock as is on inline config (auto best- no slave reference to audio clock selected), i see a yellow icon (more weird it is always red at the beginning) and "wasapi exclusive" note appears on properties page as if PCM is bitperfect streaming.
And if i leave ReClock as is i can easily jump from pcm to bitstream without any issues. (In offline config, PCM option selected as WASAPI Exclusive for sure)

But if i select "original speed" , "locked" and "slave reference to audio" -so as to get bitperfect-, i can not do this. (i get very weak sound after switching .)

What am i missing?

Clock is changing but still yellow icon?

EDIT:
Really weird; my resolution was adjusted to 50p when i gave that feedback.
Later i re-adjusted it to 24p and ReClock icon was not yellow this time; it was red and it was green from time to time.
Changed to "original speed" and "slave reference to audio" (got the yellow icon) and this time i was able to shift between PCM and DTS-HD but THD is still problematic.

Really

BTW: Trials made on nVidia 9600 GT+ i3 540/ H55 combo... OS: Seven 64. SW is 32 bit btw.

Maybe lame question, but what resampling method is used in 1.8.6.7? Is SRC gone since 1.8.5.9 version?

Greets,
Marcin

Yellow = ReClock can't work (you disabled it with your settings).
Simple solution: Don't do this.

I can't answer the rest of your question, but PCM *IS* bitperfect streaming. TrueHD & DTS-HD MA are nothing more than Zip files for PCM.

My definition of "jitter" is "a minor real-life phenomenon that affects 0.01% of digital A/V equipment, but mostly misused by HD-bitstreaming fanboys to justify their quixotic obsession with TrueHD & DTS-HD MA lights."

Agreed bitperfect streaming is working with default config even it lights green and red from time to time.
But PCM to bitsream issue (no/ or a very weak sound after switching to each other) still exists. :bang:

Restart;

PCM > PCM is working.
PCM > Bitstream is not working.

Restart;

Bitstream > bitstream is working.
Bitstream > PCM is not working.

Hi James.

Two issues below if you're in the mood for some troubleshooting.

Do you have any idea why I get some massive audio sync issues when reclock plays certain high framerate clips as mentioned in http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?p=254541#post254541

Without reclock I get perfect sync. With slave reference clock to audio on I get perfect sync. With it off, I get large out of sync problems.

------------------

I have another problem playing some of my blu-rays, where I get an error in the log (and no video output). Full log attached, and typical errors seen below, which I assume is why I see no video. I hope this helps.

hi James, I was wondering if there's something broken w/ DS on XP SP3? I use stereo PCM over S/PDIF, but not pass-through hummm'kay :D

I do get sound in KS, but not in DS. It's been happening for several versions, but I thought it was related to my drivers somehow...and I was kinda hoping for a volume attenuator within Reclock tbh

I did enable DS in the new setup wizard, and DS works fine in other players FWIW.

I've also compared DS to ASIO4ALL in uLilith, I definitely don't agree that DS w/ the slider at 100% equals KS...sound is very much mushy to my ears.

hope you can look into it, TIA!

I have a question

In mpc-hc and evr custom, if I press ctrl j I get info on renderer and it says it's running at 24.000 fps. it does this with or without reclock. Reclock, on the other hand, claims it's getting video at 1920 1080 nv12 23.976 fps, and it's appying resampling. I do not allow it to vsync.

is this correct, or am I speeding the media twice? I just want to bring it to 24.000 which is the only refresh I can get from my video card

If you create logs, please let it play a little bit longer. 20 seconds or so.
