john wick, something strange is going on here...

Not sure what you mean here. A "licensed player"? It's any player that supports MP4 format.
A licensed player is any player that will play a retail disc (not a burned copy) with out AnyDVD HD running in the back ground.
There are not many licensed computer based Blu-ray players.
Cyberlink Power DVD14, WinDVD, there is one more, but I can't think of it, they also have burning software and not many like it.
TMT6 is a licensd player, but it's no longer available.

What do the licensed players and the hardware players have that allows them to figure out the playlists that the other software players and anydvd can't?

I am talking about playing a ripped MP4 file, not a copy of the disc.

The ability to read the keys on the disc that allow the player to select the correct playlist. Software developers that do not pay for the license are not given these keys and in this case AnyDVD HD is needed to removing the keys or circumvent them.

Retail discs have a code on the actual disc itself that can't be duplicated when burning a copy as well.

This is getting a bit technical for me, but I think that's the gist of it, if I have it wrong someone may correct me I'm sure. :p

I never dealt with MP4 files, but from what I just read it's just another container to hold the video/audio/subtitles.
So whether a movie has been converted into an MP4 file, a MKV file the correct playlist has to be chosen in the beginning or it won't play right.
At any rate AnyDVD HD is needed to deal with the AACS protection so you can create the MP4 file of the movie and in the case of John Wick, AnyDVD HD is not choosing the correct play list.

Power DVD is able to play MP4 files, but the AACS protection has to be dealt with first so that Power DVD will even play it _ the same can be said for a free player (unlicensed).
I am also going to assume that in a Cinavia enabled disc with the water mark embedded in the HD sound track (if that sound track was used in the creation of the MP4 file) would have the sound muted 20 minutes into the movie with a licensed player, assuming of course if AnyDVD HD wasn't running on the back ground to turn of the detection off with in Power DVD.

What player are you using, I don't think you ever said ?

I personally don't think Slysoft should remove the "good playlists" from the status window/disc.inf altogether (it is very useful when listing correctly :D )
I agree though if AnyDVD can't consistently narrow down the playlist without a database (in the past automatic playlist detection has been effective), then it would be better not to list any playlists at all until one is confirmed by users and added to the database.

The biggest problem with this protection is that AnyDVD sometimes doesn't even see that the disc has it.
The user then doesn't even know there is a problem until a few minutes into watching (AnyDVD can't warn them if it doesn't know the protection exists)

Yeah, I guess what I'm trying to say is that there needs to be a little more information given to the user as to what the problem is as compared to the generic scan results given now, especially if AnyDVD is just guessing.

I know what I always liked about DVDFab when I was using it was that it had more detailed scan results than what AnyDVD offers us. I remember one time, years ago, a user asked James what exactly did "Minor fixes and improvements" mean for a particular release, and James posted a list of about 20 items.

I'm not sure if it's AnyDVD's job to give us the kind of info that BDinfo, tsMuxer, MakeMKV or BDRebuilder or BDedit offer us when it comes to mpls scanning and revelation, but it's getting to that point with these newer nastier protections. SlySoft not doing something about it is only going to hurt business because people are going to get frustrated from not being able to pop in their new blu-ray, not be able to copy it or make a 25GB coaster, and then not have any real clue as to what to do or why it didn't work. Let's face it, most people don't want to be "advanced" users. We need a more detailed pop-up like "This blu-ray disc's JAVA protection not supported yet. You can only create a protected ISO image at this time. The developers are working on a fix to be released soon. Please logon to our user forum for more up-to-date information." That kind of message would certainly tell me to stop trying to waste my money burning more coasters and wait a week or two.

People ask what I am doing putting movies on my hard drive? Once anydvd hd removes the protection I demuX the main movie. Convert to ac3 or keep the dts track untouched. Then I take the movie from 24 gig to 12. Depends on the length of the movie I use a specific formula. Then I play the bluray.structured file with mpc with fdshow codecs. By playing movie on my hard drive bypasses civivia protection. At this point I no longer need anydvd hd running to watch the converted movie. I bought piwerdvd ultra 14 for playing store bought disks not having to rely on anydvd hd. I use anydvd hd for access to demuX the main movie files. I do not torrent or share my collection. I've read the copy write laws and we have a license to use the movie in our residence but neef a license if we show or share publically any part be it video or audio or pictures or text relating to the movie or try to sell anything or advertise using their content outside the private residents. So streaming to all my tvs in my home is legal. If I stream to the Internet you are breaking the law.

The reason why I said Google process monitor is because it's a legal legit debugger from Microsoft. I could have set a mpls filter but wanted to show you at the point the Java revealed the true mpls. This is important to know that after bdjo then jar is the target mpls. Anydvd is in a pickle and will never solve this. The reason is like alk software. ollybdg is detected by all software makers and will terminate a program or incrypt s program to act weird. All the movie studio movies know about slysoft. I'm sure every disk is checking for it running. So unless slysoft can hide their program in the process like some scripts can do in ollybdg then they will always have to tell people to send in a log file of a disk.

Are the developers still working on a fix tor AnyDVD HD to present the correct playlist for this disk? Just checking as normally they would have knocked this out by now :) They have been pretty quiet. Is this one proving to be difficult?

In the next month I'll take you past anydvd HD to teach you guys everything from a to z in bluray authoring. Containers to mkv m2ts bluray structure to all digital sound formats to mpls merging with proper audio since to Dolby atmos to codecs and player settings to video calibration to speaker placement to sound meters on and on. So were anydvd stops I'll answer all your queations. I'm already well established on YouTube and have been tied up with auto mechanics but have always wanted to share everything I know. Stay tooned for step by step videos on everything about nluray authoring. I have to be careful how do these tutorials as note to infrindge on movie compywrite laws. I've got some ideas how to do this.

Delighted to hear you will solve Slysoft's problems and guide them to solutions of JOHN WICK BLURAY playlist obfuscations. I'll bet you consider spelling as secondary in this quest for bluray experimentation (and backups).

Can't wait.

I'm pretty sure you'll find that Slysoft already know how to do all these things, as do many of us who have been dealing with Blu-ray discs for the past 7 years

Thay're all passed out on the beach from drinking too many Margaritas...

I personally look forward to any sharing of information. I think we need more video tutorials. I learn better when I see how somebody else does it. I've been an air traffic controller for 23 years and that's how we teach noob ATC specialists everyday. Watching someone else do something and then doing it yourself has always been the best way to learn. I bought my first AnyDVD license in 2005 and have been learning ever since. Video tutorials certainly would have made things a heck of a lot easier. I think we need to support gereral1 in his efforts. After all, we don't tell James that we "know" everything every time he puts out a new update for AnyDVD do we??? LOL We all need to work together as a team, that's why this is a forum and not a blog.

I'd fully support these efforts too. I'm new here and one thing I noticed right away was the lack of instructional material on using SlySoft products. Although a lot can be gained by sorting through the various forum threads, it would be great if someone would put an effort into developing some tutorial material for the site.

If that material is posted, it should go up as a sticky so it would be prominent (maybe a notification list would be handy). Tacking it into the middle of a thread that might never be read just doesn't do it for me, so more power to general1.

I'll never get a sticky for that because it would stop sales of their bluray clownbd ;)

The material he's referring to isn't about using Slysoft products, it's about how to extract correct playlists and converting to different formats using third party products, so why would they make it a sticky? All this information is already out there, you just need to search for it on Google.

One other point on this issue, the convoluted playlists are not a problem with full backups with the latest AnyDVDHD versions, it's only a problem if you want to narrow it down to the correct playlist to convert it to movie only or other simpler format. The full backup preserves the software that picks the correct playlist from the disk.

Well AnyDVD HD has to be updated to get the right playlist even from a full disc backup, so until they add in a fix on the server end a new title may rip with messed up playlists even on full disc backups.

Ok, but as I understand it, AnyDVDHD just decodes the disk and everything that goes with that. Including the software on the disk that chooses the correct playlist. That info is not necessarily easily available to other apps.?

If the AACS is missing then the disc plays back the wrong playlist. AnyDVD HD puts a 'fix' that stops it from doing that, but they need the JAR files first to be able to do that, which is why you get rips with bad playlists until they add the fix in for that disc
