    Keep 3 Drives or not?

18TB of hard drives and 3 optical. I flip my HDD's in and out of 4 BlacX eSata docking stations ... I need to find a better way. Tired of waiting for that 20TB SSD to be released :) kwoo64: keep as many as you can

    Blu-Ray DVD Recorder

I haven't burnt a disc since Blu-Ray released, I like my backups on HDD, 18TB so far. Way way back ;) in the DVD days I only used Taiyo Yuden and loved them. I notice that TY has BD-R LTH TYPE discs, I'm guessing they would be high quality.

    Best BD-ROM drives

I've been checking out the prices for the GGC and GGW on ebay and for the new ones they're pretty close to the same price ... hummm. That's eBay Canada BTW. For a few bucks I think the GGW is the way to go for me. I'm also looking at the LG BH08 LS20, which again is only a few $$ more but...

    Best BD-ROM drives

Thanks for all of the feedback guys. James, yes I was very surprised that such a small small scratch gave me so much trouble. Tox and Hawk, I do see a lot of good comments about the H20L on a lot of different sites. Adbear, Mine is a Sony Optiarc BR-5100S Think I'll shop around for...

[Resolved] Read errors that don't look like my problem

Yup, for the amount of $$ they sell this stuff for you think they would take more care. This conversation seems like the perfect argument for backing up media ;)

I guess during the mechanical packaging process some minor scratches can occur. Both of my problem discs had very fine scratches. Thank goodness for car wax, or brasso, or 1500 sand paper ;)

    Best BD-ROM drives

I noticed a recent post from someone that was having problems ripping a BR disc with a Sony drive. I had problems a couple of days ago with 2 new discs that had "almost invisible" scratches with my Sony drive. These scratches were so small I was amazed the drive failed to read them. I also read...

Glad to hear I'm not alone. I agree that the packaging is really poor on some discs. You would think that given how easy it is to scratch a disc more care would be taken. A couple of months back I ordered my Daughter Sex and the City seasons 5, 6 and 6 Part 2. Season 6 Part 2 contained no...

You're correct ... being new doesn't mean much. Turns out both discs in question had very very small defects on the surface. A little TurtleWax and all is now good. Thanks for the feedback WebSlinger

    Drive letters

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before or not so I appologize if it has. I'm trying to sort out an AnyDVD problem and I noticed that CloneDVD won't list any DVD-RW drives that are designated as A or B. Doesn't see them at all. I use most of the available letters (HDD's) so A and B...

[Resolved] Read errors that don't look like my problem

Well I've looked at all of the drivers here: http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=15535 and don't have any of them installed. The disks are new so I'm fairly confident that they're ok. You say that I'll see the the ANY! directory while AnyDVD HD is decrypting an original disc but on...

[Resolved] Read errors that don't look like my problem

Problem is that creating the image with CloneCD takes forever. It starts off at about 9200 kBytes/sec and around 30% drops to 30 kBytes/sec. I just tried a couple of other disks, which rip to HDD fine, and they don't show an ANY! directory. Any idea why Superbad and Spiderman 3 are both...

[Resolved] Read errors that don't look like my problem

I've had the same problem with 2 Blu-Ray disks in the past 2 days, Superbad R1 and Spiderman 3 R1. With both disks the Rip to HDD stops at about 22% and gives the error msg" Error reading from drive A:\", my BR-5100S drive. I can rip to an image with CloneCD with AnyDVD HD disabled so it's...

BD movies streamed to the PS3. Got 50% chance with 3 hours avg to set up.

You're making a general statement about Ripbot264 that certainly doesn't apply to everyone. My transcode time for a 2 hour mt2s flick with Ripbot264 averages around 8 hours with a Q6600. Your final bitrate also depends on the profile and settings you select so saying "the bitrate will be 1/3 the...

Not sure about the source either. If you Google it you'll only find links going back to "cdrinfo" or old audio watermarking articles You would think that an actual tech newsfeed would have info on this.

How about support for .mkv files

Not sure what you actually want to do with your MKV's since you're description of "support" isn't very detailed. If you want to convert them to MPEG2 (.vob's) the you can try ConvertXtoDVD If you want to convert them to WMV8, WMV9 or WVC1 then use Encode360 Or do you want to convert...

    Clone HD-DVD

Transcoding speed It's a nice thought but with my Pentium D 820 it would take about 30 hours to transcode a 2 hour 1080p video. Even with a QX6700 processor it would take about 8 hours. The day will come that processors make a QX6700 look slow but until then it just takes too long to...
