NVENC on different hardware comparison

Jimc115 how do you get the log? I am new to VidCoder and it doesn't seem obvious to me where it is.

4K version log
Reduction from 6.3 GB to 750MB I find somewhat impressive.
And the picture still looks good, despite the moderate quality settings of that preset (y)

Game Ready ... just updated.
View attachment 66420

I'm running the Studio Driver...I only explanation I could find about the difference is....
"The SD version is best understood as follows. Basically, it’s a slightly back-rev, more fully tested, and more stable GPU driver that emphasizes reliability and functionality over speed and support for newly introduced gaming-specific features."

On the log...yup...I chopped out all the garbage between before the start of job...I'll add it back in if you want to make comparisons.

No need, I was just wondering about the difference

I still play some 3D games, that's the reason

I noticed on your's...your QC level is set at 30....mine is 27. I moved mine to 30 and dropped to 35 seconds.....big deal.

You did download the 700mb version...right? Something doesn't seem right...you shouldn't have taken that long to re-encode.

Careful ... I downloaded both ... the second one is the 4K encode ... there's QC30 in the preset. ;)

I think the speed normal, given my whole setup is from 2017 ... the GPU is the newest part from 2020 I think...

I could have changed it to 27 and save it a while ago...I've been using this program for years.
I've got dozens of custom presets from previous adventures. I did a two step reencode for Stargate SG-1 to
greatly improve their Blu-Ray release...actually 3 step for seasons 6-7...they left a jagged edge on the intro I had to crop out and then resize back to 1080p

Nvidia 3080 Mobile 165W using Game Ready Driver 516.59 (which apparently has bugs in it regarding performance in games so a hotfix was released a couple of days ago. Its changelog does not indicate that video encoding is affected).

Three times I have encoded the 700MB 1080p version of the new version (4k rendered) and each time it took 49s. The only settings I changed were the audio to passthrough and the video to the constant framerate radio button.

Three times I have encoded the 700MB 1080p version of the new version (4k rendered) and each time it took 49s. The only settings I changed were the audio to passthrough and the video to the constant framerate radio button.
Interesting ... could you share your GPU clock settings using TechPowerUp GPU-Z ...
My guess is, the HW encoding chip is running with the same clock speed as the GPU (it has to be some speed)
Mine's at 1500MHz
If yours is lower and Jimc115's is higher, that could be an indicator for the differences.

Nvidia 3080 Mobile 165W using Game Ready Driver 516.59 (which apparently has bugs in it regarding performance in games so a hotfix was released a couple of days ago. Its changelog does not indicate that video encoding is affected).

Are you reading and writing to the same drive....I'm assuming you are using a Laptop

Thanks for the Ctrl-L shortcut. Is VidCoder the go-to software for video encoding these days? I don't think I've even heard of it. I used to use HandBrake and VirtualDub many years ago lol.

Yes – A 1TB Samsung 980 Pro M.2

I don't think this will be a bottleneck but unfortunately I have yet to install a second drive.

Vidcoder is heavily based on handbrake (check Help - About) ... but IMO has better features :)

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU according to GPU-Z:
  • GPU Clock: 1110 MHz
  • Boost: 1545 MHz
  • Memory Clock: 1750 MHz
GPU-Z sensors show the GPU Clock hovering around 700-750 MHz with the Memory Clock hovering around 1500 MHz whilst doing another encode of the 4k version. I achieved a 3m11s duration this time which is 5s slower.

If you guys have the time, can you do encodes with the same settings as me? Constant quality 27, audio passthrough and constant framerate for video?

VidCoder is built on HandBrake.....My 3060ti is OC by design. But nope....not the drive.

Those are the setting I did....
