I could only find a "Hardware issues" forum, but it's not an issue, so i put it here...

Many people use NVENC, the NVIDIA hardware encoding.
I'm trying to find out, if the performance on newer cards 20 and 30 series is better or similar to my 1660ti

So all you people with that cards ... mind sharing your results?
I know it's not a proper benchmark, since all the other components in the computer also play a role, I just want some rough estimate.

So basically I downloaded Vidcoder 7.15 portable, changed the encoding settings to the H.265 NVENC 1080p preset (scroll all the way down), opened a video file and hit "Encode"
AnyStream is a great tool so we all have virtually the same source file...

I tried with Aeon Flux (1920x1080 with 16:9 AR), which is hopefully available to all ... and ended up with
7 minutes 5 seconds encoding time give or take 2 seconds, reproducible
Of course the quality is not what I want to keep, but that is not the question here... maybe we can play with settings later.

I will look at it as I have a new PC and I still have access to my "old" (the one before the current one) PC with a 1080, but to answer your forum question:
I think you are looking for general chat.

I agree, but it could be in the Third Party or here or even left where it was, the thread was peaceful and everyone was just discussing a subject, I don't mind at all.

OK...Paramount was giving me an error anyway....downloading through AP now.

Exactly 5 minutes.

You didn't make any changes?
The preset quality was 27?

Damn AP ... you seem to have a different source version ...
We need to find something with the same size

Exactly 5 minutes.

You didn't make any changes?
The preset quality was 27?
Nope, downloaded the portable, started, selected the preset and fed the file to it.

I think Netflix is the better choice for matching sources ... any suggestions?

I think it would be better for us to download Tears of Steel so we can ensure everybody is using the same source material.

I am not sure if I can post a URL here but try Googling for it (it has "mango" and "blender" in its URL). I propose the ~700MB HD version of the full movie (new version | 4k rendered).

Thanks, then we can test 4K too...

Took a minute to find it....re-rendered re-graded version...738,876,331K

At the same settings...38 seconds....slower than I expected.

For some reason...I lost sound on this one...reran it with same results.
