As the topic states.. Went from taking 20 minutes per disc to almost 2hrs.. Tried multiple restarts of both AnyDVD and the computer.. Also tried multiple DVD's both new and old titles to see if it was some new encryption..

I'm using the 'right click'- rip video files to hard disc method..

Any suggestions?

Thanks..

Did you restart the computer after the install? Also when the problem came about did you uninstall and reinstall Anydvd after restart? What your telling gives us no valuable information to gleam off or know exactly what your doing???

Did all the above- un-installed, re-installed, multiple restarts of the computer. I actually rolled back to an earlier version of AnyDVD and it's still doing it. Wondering if it's my DVD drive or other hardware issue. It's averaging about 2.5 hours per disc..

Any suggestion would be appreciated..

Thanks

Creating and attaching here an AnyDVD log file of any disc you are having problems with would be helpful. There is information contained in the log file that the developers can use to see if there is actually a problem with AnyDVD they need to fix, or a problem with your system such as a dying drive or some system conflict.

Don't know how to create/attach a log file? Info: How to Ask for Help - BEFORE you post

Is the drive EIDE or SATA? You most likely have to reset your IDE mode from PIO to UDMA 2. But that's only if its an old EIDE optical drive. Can't think of anything else.

It's an external USB DVD drive.. Never had a problem till tonight.. I'm going to try to re-install the drivers in the event they were corrupted somehow.

As far as a logfile goes- since it's not a particular disc that's giving me issues (I've tried several both new and old all giving me the same result so it's not a disc or encryption issue) will it still be useful? Should I just rip a DVD and attach the file? I guess what I'm asking is will a log file show a problem beyond the DVD itself?

Tried updating the drivers on my USB DVD drive.. No change. Installed AnyDVD on my laptop, and it worked like a champ, so obviously there's a hardware issue.. Hopefully a log-file can confirm it.. Will post one tomorrow.. Thanks..

Actually, that would be a software issue, not a hardware issue, since your troubleshooting so far shows that the drive works fine. :)

Just to clarify. When I rip a DVD on my desktop it takes up to 2.5 hours. When I tried it my laptop it took just under 20min..

I'm ripping a DVD on the desktop as I type this.. I'll post a logfile tomorrow that hopefully might shed some light on this..

A log file contains system information that could be helpful if there is a system problem such as driver conflicts. A log file from any disc exhibiting slow down or even an empty drive system information log file. No need to rip a disc to get a log file, just let AnyDVD decrypt the disc and then right click the red fox in the notification area and select Create Logfile.

Maybe you just stuck that drive to an old USB1.0/1.1 port? That would slow things down to roughly what you're seeing...

Here's the logfile as promised..

As I stated earlier.. I tried several discs with the same results..

That's not what peer asked. Did you plug the drive into an old USB 1.0 or 1.1 port. Most pretty much ALL drives nowadays are USB 2.0 and some newer systems already have the new 3.0 bus's. Plugging a USB 2.0 compatible device into a 1.0 or 1.1 port would slow it's performance down quite a lot. Try reconnecting the the device into the CURRENT USB port, if it's a 2.0 device and it is plugged into a old USB port it should trigger a warning from windows that "this device can operate at a faster speed if plugged into a USB 2.0 port" or something similar. Try that

The drive is plugged into the same USB2 port it has always been..

I would also like to add that when I play a DVD in the drive it plays fine..

Interesting..

Would you say that it's safe to assume the drive is going bad?

Hardware after all! That kind of stuff happens all the time. You would be surprised at the time and resources that get devoted to troubleshooting networking issues at big companies that all boil down to something like a cable running under a desk and a person has been rolling their chair over it.
