This is an older DVD and it's a somewhat odd issue.
It's the DVD of Universal's Van Helsing (2004). It was protected by some kind of structural protection, so it was ripped with AnyDVD to Folder. It decrypts fine and plays for the most part, but there is one feature on the DVD that is "broken" upon decryption.
There's an option to play the movie with an icon that will pop up from time to time and when Enter is pressed, load a side title before returning to the movie. This feature doesn't work on decrypted copies. The icons pop up but pressing Enter does nothing.
The feature does work on the original disc, both on my PC with Media Player Classic Home Cinema and on my Playstation 3. Decrypted copy does not work for this feature in either case.
As I said, it's weird. I don't think I've ever encountered a DVD where a feature didn't work after it was decrypted. Either a disc would fail to decrypt for whatever reason or would decrypt but wouldn't play at all or play improperly. The movie plays fine and all other features work on the decrypted copy. Just that one "branching" thing.
I realize it's an older DVD and not really high priority as the movie itself does play. It just seems like a weird issue to me. That a disc would decrypt and play properly, but one feature wouldn't work.
Is this something worth investigating further?
Thanks!
