Hi there,

I'm having issues when I attempt to use Rip to Image for one of my DVDs where it stalls at 77%
It also stalls when I select Rip Video Disc to Harddisk

I'm using AnyDVD HD 8.6.3.0
I'm using a LG WH16NS60 disc drive updated to the most current available firmware version: 1.03
Windows 10

The disc title is: SHERA_S1V2D2
Published in the United States in 2007
The disc is free of scratches and clean

I get the following error message:
Error reading from drive E:
Read Error Sectors: 2899395-2899409

I'm using a LG WH16NS60 disc drive updated to the most current available firmware version: 1.03

I've tried ripping with MakeMKV and WinDVD as well, but it fails.

I've also tried ripping another of the same disc from a different set, but it fails earlier.

I've restarted my computer, shut it down completely and waited, and I've also uninstalled reinstalled the drive from the device manager.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

The AI scan is forced, also it shows read errors. What if you try it after disabling the AI scan in settings?
Code:
WARNING: Read errors on disc!

Under Settings, AI Scanner, I only see two options: Automatic (Default) and Always Enabled (not recommended)

Is there a way to disable it somewhere else?

Wait a sec, I was wrong. When seeing that the scan has been forced I thought it is also forced in AnyDVD, but I was reading the logfile. And this scan always is used when AnyDVD creates one. I have read this before but forgot about this right now, since I haven't used this information much since then.

The only thing you could try is to clean it with fluid soap and a microfiber cloth, since there can be an invisible film on the disc, even when it looks fine to the eye.
But I am tired and therefore can't recall if that was for all discs or BDs only.

I get the following error message:
Error reading from drive E:
Read Error Sectors: 2899395-2899409
With all the read errors from the disc, I would say defective, but @James would need to give the final word. From the AnyDVD status and log:

Thanks. It's strange that I'm having issue with the same disc from two different sets that I purchased from two different vendors.
Given the age, perhaps it's an issue with the discs' integrity or degradation.

I'll create a log and try to rip the other disc and upload that later.

Speaking as someone who likes to buy DVD sets and rip them, I can vouch for the fact that rarely have I ripped a multi-disc set that did not have at least 1 issue.

I think they make them with little quality controls is the ultimate issue.

Yeah. I've been pretty fortunate that vendors have mostly accepted returns when I've had issues. But I think this is one where I'll need to find a new, sealed set, but even then, I'm hesitant because the issues are with the same disc(s)

Okay, here's the error message and log for the other copy of the DVD that I have (not a copy of the disc, one from another identical set)

Error reading from drive E:!
Read Error Sectors: 2488530-2488544

This one is worse. @James would need to make the final determination though.

I checked, but I don't see any fancy copy protection. Most of the errors in menus, so using CloneDVD to copy without menus might work.

Speaking as someone who likes to buy DVD sets and rip them, I can vouch for the fact that rarely have I ripped a multi-disc set that did not have at least 1 issue.

I think they make them with little quality controls is the ultimate issue.

I did have a set that worked flawlessly after I had to clean every single disc in the set, Cheers (UK Import). All the discs were made in Mexico and had a greasy handprint on them. Then I just had to remaster them to play at the correct speed.

@Krawk:

Please TRY

"Pioneer BDR-S12UHT BDXL or LiteON DH-16AFSH-Premm"

my 2 cents

Respect TO All REDFOX Team and members

That user probably exclusively uses BD drives. I'm one who does the same. I've used BD drives exclusively for about 10 years now. They cover all the possible optical media you could encounter, so I use BD to cover all the possibilities.

Another possibility is that user had successfully extracted the disc in question on one of those two BD drives in the past. I know some models of optical drives simply refuse to read certain discs for one reason or another. LG's are bad about that, failing to read discs that other optical drive models do. Panasonic DVD Video Recorders were also picky about playing some pressed DVD's.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone for your suggestions. Unfortunately, nothing worked.

I even purchased a brand-new sealed copy and tried backing it up using a different brand optical drive, but ran into the same errors at the same places with the same discs.

Given that all three sets have the same issues, I'm guessing it was a manufacturing/encoding error, which is unfortunate as the rest of the 3 sets all backed up fine.

Thanks again.

Have you tried CloneDVD or DVDShrink? If you already have CloneDVD installed, try using that. If not, DVDShrink is freely available on the web, but it is ancient. It still works, though. If either CloneDVD or DVDShrink choke on this She-Ra disc, then it is some kind of manufacturer issue.

Oh, I also noticed you're using an LG WH16NS60 in this scenario. You might want to try a different drive. The NS60 has read issues with certain DVD and BD discs that other drives will read in. For instance, Sunday, I came across a BD that the NS60 would not read but my USB Pioneer would read. Particularly since you've tried 2 different sets and get the same problem on both discs in each set on the NS60, I'd try using a different drive and see if it works.

This is why I keep a USB drive handy. To check for sure if it's the disc or just my main drive, the NS60, being picky again. Just make sure the other drive is not an LG as LG have been picky readers for decades.

Thanks. I tried CloneDVD, but couldn't find an actual download link for DVDShrink.

I bought an ASUS SDRW-08U9M-U USB DVD drive to test out a different brand and still have the same problem with both discs with AnyDVD, MakeMKV, WinX DVD, and CloneDVD. Setting the options to remove the menus doesn't work either, unfortunately.

I think it just comes down to mastering errors, which is unfortunate as these are the only two discs out 65 of the entire Masters of the Universe Collection that I own that can't be backed up.

If anyone would be willing to try on their system, I'd happily send the discs.
