Read Speed on Blu-ray?

Incidentally, those suffering with the LG drives, DLaD and I have removed the riplock on our drives using MSCE and are getting about 20mbps ripping speeds now. ;) So, do yourself a favor, grab the latest firmware (1.03 I believe at the time of writing) and hack it up with MSCE to remove the riplock. You'll be thankful you did.

Thanks for the links for the LG situation. That's odd. After I repatched it I noticed a speed gain, as well. I'm wondering, and this is JUST simply thinking out loud here, if the stupid SPDT driver interfered with patching the drive previously. Cause the last time I patched it, DT was installed. This last time I patched it with the riplock free firmware, I patched it without DT or the SPDT driver. I have absolutely NO evidence of that at all, but, just wondering if that's even possible.

Also, it doesn't explain the Matshita situation at all, either. It's locked at 2x. It refuses to go above that. :( Not very useful for ripping. Not that I really care that much, but, it'd be nice to have it fixed if possible.

Hi Samuri et al, long time no see.

I patched 1.03 firmware with the MCSE and reflashed my LG.

I am getting close to 20 mbps when ripping T2 Blu Ray to HDD using AnyDVD HD.

But it goes up progressively, from 8 mbps at the beginning to 20.5 mbps at the end.

Actually, the max I've got is 20.78 mbps.

I hope my test is valid. If not, let me know.

What were your previous read speeds when ripping? According to ala42 the riplock removal using MCSE on the LG firmware shouldn't have any impact on the BD read speed (http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=125314&postcount=18). It made a difference with my drive and it did with SamuriHL's, as well. It didn't extend the speed beyond the original specifications of the drive but it did make the drive live up to its specifications.

Yea, that seemed to be my experience, as well. It literally cut my ripping times in half, so, whatever the reason for it, I'm quite pleased. I still have no idea WHY this happened, but, I'm not unhappy in the least.

I'm not completely sure of timing on everything so I don't know when I first flashed my drive to the official 1.03 firmware but this leads me to a serious concern. It's one thing to have SPTD cause problems when it is installed and reading from a drive but it's far far worse if it's possible that SPTD is, in fact, screwing with flashing a drive. In my case I had SPTD removed and my read speeds were still low. Anything that would interfere with flashing a drive is a seriously bad bad thing.

I don't believe I had DT installed when I first began ripping with the 1.02 firmware when I got the LG GGC-H20L and I experienced the ~8 MB/s max rip speed back then. No DT also means no SPTD. I had no virtual drive software installed at all.

I'm not convinced that SPTD is the cause but I'm also at a loss for other possible causes.

I don't know what it was before.

Quite possible it was the same.

Anyway, it is pretty fast now.

I'm not going to worry about it much, either. I'm happy that it's ripping faster now, no matter what the reason. If we have problems again, then yes, we should really look into what's going on. Otherwise, I'm not going to worry about it.
