New PowerDVD Patch

This isn't specifically about the new patch but I did have to laugh. The humour is sad but...

I just received an email from CyberLink today. I'm an existing customer for numerous years now. I'm still using PowerDVD 7 Deluxe. Well, I got a lovely email about PowerDVD 7 Ultra being on sale! Joy joy!

Now remember I already own PowerDVD 7 Deluxe. Well, they are willing to sell me PowerDVD 7 Ultra for a whopping 10 USD off. Yes, I can now purchase PowerDVD 7 Ultra for the low low price of 89.95 USD. Shocking. Simply astounding! Forget about the fact that I already gave them how much money and they won't give me an upgrade discount... nope, I get to save 10 USD. Considering all the problems they've had with PowerDVD 7 Ultra I'm amazed they're actually even doing this.

Now there's a deal if I ever saw one.

I can't wait until TheaterTek has HD and BR support.

DrinkLyeAndDie,

Is this a special offer that you activate through a link emailed to you, as Cyberlink does not have this special up on their site?

Unable to unistall powerDVD

I have been using PowerDVD ultra until yesterday when I tried to install the new patch:doh: The installation crashed and the application was not working - so I tried to unistall it, but failed again. I tried all recommended steps (edit register, installshield, specialised software), but when I try to re-install powerDVD I receive a message "there is an old version of powerDVD on your PC , click Yes to unistall it first" . When I click "yes" the installation stops - no software installed. I run Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit). So I am stuck - unable to reinstall the programme because somewhere in the system there sre some pieces of older installation . I only do not know where and no cleaning tool do not help. I tried to use the same installation file on my other PC (XP Home) - no problem. Any idea ? Thanks.

I replied to this on your avsforum post on the same request. Posting here in case anyone else is having trouble:

Did you run the MS cleanup utility to ensure there were no more PowerDVD entries? http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe

I also had this problem several times. I had to search the registry in regedit and delete every entry related to PowerDVD or Cyberlink (and there are a lot of them!). Then it worked again.

I haven't tried the MS Tool yet.

i still cant get the 2911 full edition to work on vista 64. I think Cyberlink tweaked something so it doesnt install on vista 64 anymore :(

Oh well, I won't be using PowerDVD to play my HD content anymore. Nero does a decent job of playing ripped blu-ray /hd-dvd so I'll just use them from now on....too much of a hassle with PDVD:disagree:

Nero Showtime? You must be kidding. It doesn't play Blu-ray BDMV (no problem for me), but it hardly plays HD DVD without tearing or stutter. IMHO completely unusable.

EDIT:
As buggy as PowerDVD Ultra 7.3 might be (HD DVD subtitles anyone?), it is the only player that delivers good picture & audio quality.

Except there is no way in hell I can make it to work on my Asus P5B Deluxe with nvidia 7600 GT and any nvidia drivers.

PDVD HD 6.5 works beatifully as we speak.

I tried to install the latest full version on the totally clean system. No dice. Either black screen or reboot. Yes, REBOOT!

Using instructions from this thread from Cyberlink TS removed 7.3 and reinstalled 6.5. Everything is fine.

7.3 works fine on my second Abit F-I90HD HTPC with Radeon 1250 built-in.

Am I missing something?

Edit: my system has nvidia PCI-E 7600GT and nvidia PCI M4000 at the same time. I need to run 3 monitors from this HTPC. This is probably the root of the problem.

I tried every recommended solution , contacted Cyberlink and even Microsoft and the result was : reinstall Vista Upgrade , but use CLEAN installation (without programmes) and re-install again every other programme. Fortunatelly I did not have many programmes installed on my HTPC. Clearly there is a problem with upgrading Vista from XP when PowerDVD is installed in XP. It took me over three hours anyway, but not now (at least) my PowerDVD works

i have tried these solutions too and u can believe me build 2911 dont work for me too. Older work under x64 Vista

Knowing Cyberlink, it was probably an accident that it worked in the first place!

i will wait for answer. the activation email i dont get after the registering there too :(
