AnyDVDHD / Windows 7

just so i know, should i leave imgburn installed?

uninstalled all corrupted items from system, rebooted. lg now seen correctly by system

Okay, the USB error corresponded with the LG drive not being seen by Windows, which in turn would have made Anydvd not see the drive.
Your drive G appears to be an external usb drive . ..

inserted new/original commercial dvd into drive (transformers) it's now seen. new logs now able to be generated from BR, which are attached.

Log looks fine.

At this point read errors are a result of one of the following, in order of likelihood:

A. The original disc is bad even if it plays fine. Exchange it.

B. The disc is dirty. Clean it.

C. Your drive is slowly dying. Try a different drive.

D. The cable on the back of your drive is bad. Exchange it.

just so i know, should i leave imgburn installed?

Sure. Doesn't hurt anything. It's a very good program.

In fact if you disable Anydvd and rip with imgburn, and if the rip also fails with imgburn that strongly indicates that either the disc is bad (about 85% of the time, this is the problem) or your drive is slowly dying. Blu-ray discs, just like standard definition dvds, can be defective right out of the plastic wrap.

Commercial dvds differ from Blu-rays in that commercial dvds can contain structural protection. That structural protection on commercial (SD) dvds can produce read errors if Anydvd doesn't handle the disc properly. And with an SD dvd that contains structural protection, you can't exit Anydvd and rip with Imgburn. That won't work at all. Currently, no Blu-ray contains structural protection. Consequently, all commercial Blu-ray movies (at this time) can be ripped regardless of whether one uses Anydvd HD. Commercial Blu-ray movies just can't be decrypted without Anydvd HD.

here we go again

just re-imaged machine from rc2 of vista 7 x64 to released version. i've
re-installed everything again, same error popped up. answers to standard questions below

1) a)If you have HDCP compliance, does the original disc exhibit playback issues with Anydvd disabled? If the original disc doesn't play fine with Anydvd disabled, then your problem has nothing to do with Anydvd.

N/A playing on PS3, plays fine on PS3

b) Does the original disc play fine with Anydvd enabled?

N/A playing on PS3, plays fine on PS3

2) Update your drive's firmware if available: http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=18731

Well, unfortunately, this still applies: http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=30640

That is, there's nothing on Blu-ray discs that prevents them from being ripped.

So the conclusion at the end of the post that I linked to applies, provided that you can't even rip the disc at all even using imgburn.

That is, typically, these are your options in order of likelihood:

A. The original disc is bad even if it plays fine. Exchange it.

B. The disc is dirty. Clean it.

C. Your drive is slowly dying. Try a different drive.

D. The cable on the back of your drive is bad. Exchange it.

actually, that is a good point, that is the one thing i didn't test. trying to copy with imgburn now..

just when i think i have the troubleshooting process down.. :)

well, i'm assuming this either means that the media is bad or windows 7 is causing something to happen (i.e. power management) when the screen saver comes on.

It's bad media. It's why I wrote the bad disc guide in the first place. To make people understand that it happens FAR too often.

that is what i figured. it's amazing to me how often brand new discs have these issues.

It's more a matter of farming out the disc mfg'ing to the lowest bidder. Quality suffers as a result.

If this is happening to you a lot, it's possible your drive is slowly dying. You may want to try another.

i'm waffling on that part still. my success rate is still over 90%, so hoping that these are isolated instances.

since the LG has been a bit buggy, any suggestions on what others are using that is working well for them? the only other one i've found are made by buffalo tech, and the reviews are mixed at best.

The LG is not buggy. Three of us are using the LG drives in our machines and they ROCK. I have zero problems with both my writer and reader in two separate machines. Make sure you have the latest firmware for your drive.

must just be the discs then.

i'm using ye05, per their site (today) that is the latest, right?

I believe so. I have older versions of the drives myself so the firmware is a bit different but 05 is the latest for my burner. So I think you're good there.

I agree, I've fitted literally hundreds of LG Blu-ray drives over the past year or so and as of yet have had not a single one come back in for warranty issues
