AnyDVD 6.5.4.4 Crashes After Install (0x5ad71531" referenced memory at "0x00000014")

Never seen anything like this before.

I downloaded the new setup file, and ran it. The install proceeded apparently normally to completion. However, when I selected "finish", and AnyDVD went to load, it crashed.

The frame for the settings began to draw, but never filled. The Windows XP (Pro) box came up telling me that AnyDVD had a problem and had to shut down appeared - and it did. It would not start when I tried again, or after a reboot.

I tried to revert to 6.5.4.0, but after it did the same thing at the same point. I then did a system restore to a couple of days ago, and 6.5.4.0 reappeared, and loaded just fine. I tried a new download copy of the 6.5.4.4, but it crashed, just as before. System restore, once again, brought back a functioning 6.5.4.0.

I've used AnyDVD for years, and never had a problem anything close to resembling this.

I can't give you much more than this because 6.5.4.4 simply won't run. Any insights? Anything else I can provide?

Thanks,

Gerry Hunter

Copy. Can't do it right now, but will reply after I've done the steps.

Thanks, Gerry

Here's the message I get on the startup abort. It appeared after the reinstall reboot, as the tray display tried to load (frame only, then this):

VerbosePageForm: AnyDVDtray.exe - Application error

Remove these filter. Refer here for other problematic filters: http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=15536.

  1. Create a backup of your registry. Refer here for how to do so: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756
  2. Download ImgBurn (freeware) here: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download.
  3. Start ImgBurn and go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order....
  4. Select "DLACDBHM". Click Remove Selected Filter. Click OK.
  5. Select "DRVMCDB". Click Remove Selected Filter. Click OK.
  6. Reboot

Whatever program installed the filter may no longer work properly. If you reinstall the software that installed the filter then the filter will be installed on your system again.

After rebooting check to see that it is no longer listed by using ImgBurn to see the Filter Driver Load Order....

It really would be a wise idea to read the forum stickies since things like these filters are mentioned in them.

Running ZoneAlarm Suite 7.

Just for info's sake, I mentioned that 6.5.4.0 runs fine when I restore to it. It's running right now, without problem. Here is the info I get from ImgBurn when it is running:

The only difference I spotted on the list was the AnyDVD filter - 6.5.4.0 vs. 6.5.4.4. Can't tell if that's truly significant, but it does rather stick out.

Will have to wait till tomorrow to try more mods, but would still appreciate any guidance.

Do what Drinklyeanddie wrote.

I have no clue why it's crashing though. You can try disabling Zonealarm briefly just to test if the problem goes away.

Also, if you haven't already, update to SP3 (with full updates). I am unable to reproduce this problem.

I dig a little deeper, based on what came out of following the guidance here.

To cut to the chase, it's NOT AnyDVD. When my digging came to show it was something else, I took it off this machine (my laptop) and put it on my desktop - also an XP machine - where I used to run it. Installed and ran like a charm.

Sorry if I raised alarms over Any DVD, but the info I gained led me towards the real problem (I'm getting there :) ), and appreciate the assistance. I'd probably be still casting about without it.

Blessings,

Gerry

Have to get back to you on that; still tracking it down. Turns out, AnyDVD wasn't the only thing that couldn't open a window. Neither could Thunderbird, though everything else seems fine. I'm trying to trace through what they might have in common - and that might take time. But I will pass on anything I might learn.
