Trouble with Baraka?

This must be an isolated problem though, i had no problems with this movie, ripped to HD and played from there fine.

What drive do you have?

I have a LG GGC-H20L combo drive, and two different original Baraka copies behave the same.

I tried 6.4.8.1 beta, and after 3 mins or so the drive stops thrashing about and I got a log.

After Anydvd HD has settle down, it says the drive is not ready.

Summary for drive Z: (AnyDVD 6.4.8.1)

Summary for drive Z: (AnyDVD 6.4.8.1)

Why is your drive called "SATA"?
EDIT:
The correct drive name should be something like this:
HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW GGC-H20L 1.03

Can you - just for fun - use a different drive letter? (Not Z)

Ok, I'll change the letter.

Umm....why?

And I have no idea why it's called "SATA". It just is.

This is a new XP SP3 build, with very little installed, but it has Windows updated, updated mobo drivers, and the Toshiba UDF driver installed.

I might boot into Vista and see what happens (dual boot machine while I played with Reclock on Vista).

Thanks for looking James.

I saw AVG antivirus among running processes in your log file. Try stopping or disabling it and see what happens. Also, you could experiment with other running / installed programs. Try to stop or better uninstall them and see if the behaviour has changed.

Ok, I tried a different drive letter, disabled AVG and Elby clonedrive.

No difference.

I booted into Vista, no difference, but log attached.

If you have successfully ripped the disc, can you please post your drive type?

Cheers

EDIT: Please disregard, there was a smudge on the disc (don't know, how, until I get this ripped I am hyper careful - this is my favourite film of all time.)

Does this mean it's a drive or disc issue?

Maybe you installed 'patched' firmware for your drive from here? If so, try to install the original firmware or latest 'official' one.

No, I have the 1.03 firmware from the LG site, I patched it when one of the Slysoft guys told me to (when I found an AVP2 bug).

But, that looks really interesting...I am loath to put the Doom9 patched firmware on it right now...

What are they trying to achieve?

The two people who had no problems and posted logs are using the Lite-On DH-401S.

The doom9 patched firmware makes the volume ID readable without AACS authentication. Patching the firmware in that way is unnecessary when using AnyDVD HD. Stick with the official firmware.

It does seem like an Anydvd HD issue (sorry James).

Going to mount the iso and see what happens now...

I'm still interested to know why your drive has SATA in the name? None of mine do either under XP or Vista, it could be something to do with the controller on the motherboard that your connected to. I have HL-DT-ST BD-REGGW-H20L when I look at the details in Imgburn and AnyDVD for my drives on different motherboards.
Is it connected to an AHCI controller as I've had problems with LG drives when the controller they are attached to is set to AHCI (giving me errors, drive dropping out etc)

Dunno Adbear. Look in the Vista log I posted, it has a different name there:

Summary for drive K: (AnyDVD 6.4.8.1)
HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW GGC-H20L 1.03 410515082485J91002
Drive (Hardware) Region: 0 (not set!)

Media is a Blu-Ray disc.

Total size: 22938784 sectors (44802 MBytes)
Video Blu-ray label: BARAKA
Media is AACS protected!
Removed AACS copy protection!

Anyway, I've had some success. Imgburn made an ISO, and I mounted the ISO with VCD.

Then fired up Anydvd HD and it works.

Summary for drive J: (AnyDVD 6.4.8.1)
ELBY CLONEDRIVE 1.4
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Media is a DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (parallel)

Total size: 22938784 sectors (44802 MBytes)
Video Blu-ray label: BARAKA
Media is AACS protected!
Removed AACS copy protection!
Blu-ray disc is region free!
Removed UOPs!
Removed annoying trailers!

I was able to copy out the main .m2ts file and play it back in Zoomplayer (although seeking to the end is a bit iffy). I didn't try ripping the mounted ISO back to another drive.

Now I'm converting it to MKV/FLAC.

You know, tomorrow night I might get to watch it, because I won't watch it on the projector until I get a working GAMMA control (Powerdvd + Ati card = no gamma), and I get to use the filters I want. This movie is special to me and I want it PERFECT before I watch it on the projector in HD.

Attached is a Log file. It all looks good, but at one stage I did get an error from Anydvd about the wrong disc being in the drive.

I'm pretty chuffed right now  Fingers crossed the MKV works, cause I gotta get to bed...

Cheers

Mark

SUCCESS!! :p

I have a perfect MKV which plays smooth and I can use desktop gamma.

The backdoor trick of creating an ISO with Imgburn, then activating Anydvd HD on that, worked fine.

Mark

I'm kind of curious now, to see whether it's the LG drive or not. Since I've got the H20L combo drive myself, I'll see if my local rental place has this one on Blu-Ray, and if so I'll see what AnyDVD thinks of it. Obviously I won't go through the whole process or save anything copied to my hard drive from a rented disc, but it might be useful to see if there's something odd about the drive itself that should be corrected in a future firmware update.

I notice this thread is now "Resolved".

Yes, I did get a working rip in the end, but there is still something very strange going on between the LG drive and the Baraka disc, when Anydvd HD is enabled, and only with Anydvd HD.

I hope it doesn't happen again with more discs in the future.
