Getting a new iMac 21" for Christmas which does not have a CD/DVD drive. I have a Shuttle xPC running Windows 7 with a MadDog DVD burner... I need both LOL. Anyway, I'd like to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, and rather than buying the Apple SuperDrive (Slim USB) to install new programs, I thought about buying an external USB Blu-Ray Reader/Burner. I no longer burn backups, I save everything to my NAS and playback via an AppleTV1 that is jailbroken with Crystalbuntu OS.

Can someone explain in laywomen's terms LOL... whether I can rip BR movies and store them in M4v or Mkv formats on my NAS, and whether this cinavia stuff will mess up my archive rips when playing back on the ATV1.

And of course... what Portable USB BR Burner. I saw a Seatech brand which is basically a Apple-style aluminum slim case with a Panasonic drive inside it. Its USB 3.0 too.
