Volume Variations During Playback

Trying to burn a PAL movie and finding the volume varying wildly from scene to scene. In fact, exactly on scene barriers the dialogue goes from perfect to barely audible to perfect to barely audible. With very few settings visible, I have no idea how to cure this, but it is severe enough to be unacceptable. The files themselves, played directly, sound perfect. Something is happening when they are burned and I need help finding out how to correct it. Thank you to anyone who can offer any suggestions!

Are you deselecting any particular audio streams on the Audio and Subtitle Settings section of CloneDVD2?

CloneDVD2 doesn't alter audio streams in any way apart from removing unwanted ones.

Then your problem is elsewhere (i.e. nothing to do with CloneDVD2).

A log file would help alot here....since there is no details it's all hear say what is happening here...

A prior post is absolutely correct, the problem has nothing to do with CloneDVD. I was able to prove that by using ImgBurn and getting the same but noticably worse result. Since, if I simply play back the VIDEO_TS folder files, the volume is consistent and satisfactory, I am baffled. Here is the log.

How are you playing back... software player? Standalone DVD player?

Maybe you need to select a particular audio stream within the player settings.

Mike, I truly appreciate your persistence in trying to help me. I am playing back the dvd in a standalone player. Regarding audio streams, I must not be understanding. When I go to burn the files, there is only one stream listed. When I play the dvd, there is, as far as I know, no way to select alternates (I don't, for example, even see a foreign language choice).

Adding something here, and I'm embarassed about it. Your questions made me think, I have never tried the DVD in a computer (though I did try two very different standalone players). When I tried to play it with WMP, I get NO sound at all. When I play it in KMPLAYER, it works perfectly. The problem, therefore, is obviously related to the players, but still I have no idea why this is happening as I have not experienced it ever before.

I take it if you watch the original dvd on the standalone there is no problem with the audio?

What is the title of the DVD? (Edit - Eraser?).

Are you working with an Original DVD (i.e. put DVD in the drive, let CloneDVD2 process the files to temp folder on HDD, then take out DVD and put in a blank for the burn to take place) or are burning existing data from another source?

Transcoder disabled???

I noticed when I'm using CloneDVD that in the log file, there's a "Transcoder Disabled" line. What does this mean and, should it be enabled? If so, how do I enable it? Thanks.

Sorry. I just found out what "Transcoder disabled" means in another post. It's a good thing, not a bad one. Thanks.

Not sure, why you post this question into this thread, but "transcoder disabled" means "maximum picture quality". Quality bar will be at 100%. Consult the manual for more details.

The backup doesn't need to be compressed to fit the output target size, so yes, it is a good thing because you are not altering the video/audio by compressing it.
