When the quote says "re-encoded to ac3".
They mean the "use ac3 encoder for pcm sound" tick box?
 
Yes, you are correct. Perhaps a bad choice of words on my part. :)
 
Right now I have ffdshow audio using analog 24bit sound out.
And reclock is changing that analog to ac3, which is being played through toslink to my z-5500 speakers.

Theoretically I could use hdmi for sound instead of the toslink though, correct?
 
Yes, but there are limitations for AC3 and DTS formats over HDMI. Others may be able to talk to this issue. I use my HDMI output for PCM only.
