I am looking to be able to handle HD DVD/Blu Ray support but also be able to perform as a very good gaming card as well

The best right now for your money would be the Nvidia 8800GT. It has the new purevideo 2 codec which improves playback of hidef media. If you want a budget card (just in case) then go for the ATI 2600XT or Nvidia 8600, both have the best hidef playback capabilities. If you want a beast get the new king of the block (ATI 3870 GX2) or wait for the next line of cards from Nvidia to replace the GTX and the ultra which should (fingers crossed) be within the next couple months.
 
I am not much of an ATI fan but the 3850 seems like a nice HTPC GC. 3d performance is much better than the 8600 line in case you ever want to play a game.
