I just purchased AnyDVD HD and a Blu-ray drive and have tried playing some Blu-ray discs using PowerDVD 8 Ultra. Most discs result in the video being a solid green. That is, there are the expected black bars at the top and bottom of my 4:3 monitor, but the video area itself is solid green - no picture. The information that PowerDVD displays as it plays shows the expected video bit rates and identifies the video type (for example VC-1) so it is seeing the video but not displaying it. Audio is fine. So far this has occured on every VC-1 and MPEG-4 AVC disc I have tried (Casino Royale, I am Legend, POTC At World's End, Independence Day). An MPEG2 Blu-ray disc (Night at the Museum) played correctly.

My monitor is not HDCP compliant. If I exit AnyDVD HD, PowerDVD won't even attempt to play the disc, which I expected. But I thought AnyDVD HD eliminates any issues related to HDCP compliance, so I wonder whether the green screen is unrelated to HDCP.

My system is Intel Quad-core 9550 2.83 GZ, 8 GB RAM, ATI EAH 3450 video card (low-end but HDCP compliant), Vista Ultimate 64 bit. The video connection path is DVI out of the video card into a DVI port on a KVM switch, DVI out of the KVM switch into DVI on the monitor.

I am not sure whether the DVI on the KVM switch is HDCP compliant, but again I would think it wouldn't matter since I am using AnyDVD HD.

Any thoughts on what could be wrong.

Try rolling the graphics drivers back to 8.10, and what build of PDVD 8 are you using?

Well, today it is working right. I think this may be what happened when it was not working yesterday:

I had PDVD open when I inserted the disc (it takes up the whole screen so I could not see the AnyDVD HD notification that it is scanning the disc) and after inserting a disc, I waited about 30 seconds before hitting play. I have used AnyDVD and CloneDVD for a long time with standard DVD's and 30 seconds was always enough time. Today with PDVD not yet open so I could see the AnyDVD HD scan message, I noticed that from the time I insert a disc it takes about 30 seconds until AnyDVD HD pops up the message that it is scanning the disc. Then it takes another 3 minutes or more before the message disappears. I didn't realize that it takes that long (probably it has to do a lot more work with HD than with standard DVD).

I think the problem yesterday was that I was hitting play in PDVD before AnyDVD HD had completed its scan. Today I kept PDVD minimized so I could see the AnyDVD HD scan message and waited until it disappeared before attempting to play the disc. And it plays fine. I apologize for the false alarm and wasting everyone's time.

By the way, is it normal for AnyDVD HD to take several minutes to scan the disc?

It can depending on the disc (if the disc contains BD+) and system specs or if you're scanning a dvd containing structural protection. Do not open Clonedvd, Powerdvd, or any other program that may access the disc while Anydvd is scanning. Wait for Anydvd to finish scanning first.
