I have read everything I can find and I have not been able to find the answer to my questions.

I want to copy my DVD movies as well as music CDs to my HDD. What program do I need? I also want to make a backup copy of my CDs and my DVDs.

Is there a way for me to get automatic notification when someone posts a response to my question? Thanks

For step 16, on the output screen, select "dvd files" instead of your burner.

Windows Media Player can also rip all your CD's to your hard drive and burn copies. I use Windows Media Player (10) myself as it locates and adds the cover art online.

AnyDVD by itself can rip entire DVD's to the hard drive. But if you want to re-author and/or burn DVD's you'll need software to do so.
No matter what you use you'll need AnyDVD to allow any DVD copying to go on at all.

But from there, you have choices to use CloneCD, CloneDVD, and/or a number of freeware or paid alternatives.

Exactaudiocopy is far, far, far better than WMP (or practically anything, really) for ripping cds. The error correction methods employed by that program are outstanding. It is one of the best freeware programs ever written (but it may be a bit complicated for beginners).
