I just downloaded a trial version to see if anydvd would work to back up one of my Lost DVDS. I’ve been very frustrated over the whole process. However, despite downloading the newest beta version I still can’t rip this older dvd.

I followed the steps on the forums that were provided for another that couldn’t rip Mash Season 1, but it still didn’t work. I wasn’t running any programs at the time I tried ripping it. Although there were processes that were running in the background.

The error message I get is:

FileIO 3 VTS_03_1.VOB 68442112 507904

The log is attached.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

A FileIO 3 error is a read error and generally caused by a bad disc. According to your logs I don't see any problematic software on your system but I do see read errors. The problem is likely the disc itself.

Download Nero CD-DVD Speed. It's a free program. With AnyDVD running in the background, select the tab labeled ScanDisc. Select the appropriate drive letter, and click Start. If Nero CD-DVD Speed reports read errors then the disc, in this case, is likely bad.

Ok, it stops exactly where the copying stops when I tried Any DVD. The scanner is saying .3% is bad (and perhaps more), but it won't move any further. Does this mean I should try a new disc, or is there another fix?

If the original disc is bad then there is no real way to make a perfect copy from it. I don't have have Lost (Season 1) on hand to check with but I don't believe there should be any problems with it. I suspect the problem is the disc, itself. Do you have problems with any of the other discs in the box set of the season?

The original disc is damaged or your drive is dying.

Here are your options:

1. Clean the disc. Try again.

2. Replace the damaged disc.

3. Try a different drive

You should try a new disc. I just finished backing up my set of Lost Season 1 and had no problems at all with any of the discs.
