Even at that price they're still too expensive to break into the mass market but it is a step in the right direction.
 
In the meantime, Futureshop (large chain) in Canada is running a sale on the Singapore versions for $30 Canadian funds for 25 (or approximately $27 U.S. for a 25 disc spindle): http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10076390

They are out of stock online, but Canadian customers in online forums indicate the Verbatim +R DLs (made in Singapore) are available in-store.
