You might want to try something out on the software market that seems to work well:

AVS Video Converter 6

From their website:
Manage HD videos: edit and convert
MPEG-2 HD, MP4 HD, WMV HD, QT HD, OGM HD formats are supported. Watch your videos on PC in the highest possible quality.

Also plays thru your standalone DVD player after conversion.

Tested this app with BD Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix
