I tried to use game jackel on left 4 dead that I bought off EBAY but it's saying the CD-Key is registered to another person so it won't install. Any ideas on how to unlock CD-Key's through Steam?

The issue you're having has nothing to do with Game Jackal. And Game Jackal also has nothing to do with Steam. You appear to have been ripped off.

and gamejackal would be useless for steam anyway, steam are a digital download service (ie: no disk, and thus, no disk check)...

were you unable to buy the game on steam? or was the ebay offer a bargain? (if it was a bargain, alarmbells should have been ringing)..

but, as Webslinger says, gamejackal can't help you, the key is in use (or bound to someones account), thus your purchase is useless (except perhaps for singleplayer).. either way.. no disk = no need for gamejackal

so you only have a few alternatives

1. get the ebay seller to sort it out (doubtful that this will happen)
2. accept your losses and buy the game on steam

Yeah....you're screwed :p

Always do your research when buying from eBay. Especially for multiplayer games, you might need to register the CD Key online. Once the registration is used, the CD Key pretty much becomes useless. In your case, L4D was already registered to a steam account before being sold to you. If you have any doubts, always buy PC games that sellers describe the condition as "Brand New"

If the original listing described this copy of Left 4 Dead as "Used," then you really have no case to get your money back...since you "knowingly" purchased the item even though it was used by the previous owner. Selling used PC games isn't illegal on eBay, because those discs can still be used to replace damaged discs in case if the owners never got around to making a backup

btw....NOT a Game Jackal-related problem

dont give up just yet - this happened to me one time. ( bought a game on ebay - could not register it with steam)

I contacted steam and sent them a scan of the CD key which was inside of the game case, thus proving that I was now the game owner. Once they received the scan, they reset things so that I could register & play the game.

go through steam help / FAQ & you should be able to find out how to contact them.

Ps - this earler statement "and gamejackal would be useless for steam anyway, steam are a digital download service (ie: no disk, and thus, no disk check)..." is inaccurate.
Some boxed games, which do contain a disc, still require you to activate via steam even of off line play e.g. this is the case if you buy a retail version of half life.

but it's true that GJ is not relevant for playing steam games - you will always have to authenticate on line via steam servers & GJ can't do that for you.
