Ipad????

I tried the one with 640X480 with ResAna4 = 640X480 removed like you said but I'm getting the error I had posted earlier.

iPad - Works but needs tweaks

This works fine for the iPad at full res 1024x768 but the volume on Transformer DVD is not very loud and I am not sure about the quality settings.

Put your profile suggestions in code tags please to avoid the illegal space that will crash the profile (between coder= and 1) - here it is done correctly

For volume, search for MVolume - there are different options which may or may not work well depending on your playback rig. You can change the video quality (bitrate) with the slider bar in CDM output screen.

What version of CloneDVD Mobile are you using?

I'm using the latest version 1.6.1.0 and I'm getting this error message:

File 2 "C:\Program Files\SlySoft\CloneDVDmobile\apps\mencoder.exe" - -af volume=0 -of lavf -lavfopts format=mp4 -oac lavc -ovc lavc -lavcopts aglobal=1:vglobal=1:vcodec=libx264:coder= 1:acodec=libfaac:vbitrate=1620:abitrate=160:threads=4:vpass=1 -vf pp=fd,scale=640:360,harddup -aspect 1.777778 -info name="A_LITTLE_ROMANCE" -ofps 30000/1001 -o "F:\My Backups\A Little Romance Test.m4v" -passlogfile "F:/My Backups/mencmpass2312.log" 232 TCE

You can stream mkv, mt2s, mp4, with media server, and I pad application
no need for hours of conversion wifi no hicups this is awesome work the I pad rock I have a 64gig but I wondered it would probely fill up with at Least 20 to 25 converted bluray movies, this media server is the best solution.
I have found..

Not everyone wants to connect to a server everytime they want to watch a movie.. Whats the point if you could still only watch it when online??

Many people prefer to convert it and put the converted video on the device so it can be viewed anytime..

My iPad arrives tomorrow. Yeah!

Has anyone had luck with these adjustments? I'll try playing with it over the weekend but curious if anyone has stuck gold?

Not directly, but I have been playing with the appletv setting. I have bumped the res to 720x408 to play on my iphone. Looks like it will bump higher 1280x720. That puts it into the hd realm.

I just converted Avatar using the 720x404 resolution in this iPad profile:
Code:
[iPad Video]
Manufacturer=Apple (iPod/iPhone/AppleTV)
useMencoder=1
SubTitle=1
Res1=320x240
Res2=512x384
Res3=640x480
Res4=720x540
Res5=1024x768
ResAna1=320x180
ResAna2=426x240
ResAna3=512x288
ResAna4=640x360
ResAna5=720x404
ResAna6=1024x576
ARate=48000
ABRate=128
Format=lavf
lavfopts=format=ipod
lavcopts=aglobal=1:vglobal=1:vcodec=mpeg4:coder=1:acodec=libfaac
FileType=m4v
Quality=23
iPodFix=0
MaxVBitrate=2500

If you noticed, I manually added the 720 & 1024 horizontal resolutions.

In my test I disabled the De-Interlace option and raised the quality to the max. The results looks pretty good on the iPad, just some minor artifacting. I'm starting to wish I could do BluRays instead.

My understanding may be incorrect, but my theory is since the DVD resolution is 720x480 it didn't make much sense to try to increase much beyond that as it would just be a waste of space. Is that wrong?

My Avatar convert ended up at 2.7GB at 720.

I use the PS3 16:9 profile and it works flawlessly. I set the resolution to maximum for DVDS (720x480) and the quality to maximum. Once CloneDVD Mobile is finished I just sync the movies to my iPad.

And then I place a copy of the movie on my NAS so that I can also watch it on my PS3 whenever I want.

I see that several people are making profiles with 1024x768 resolutions, but I do not see how this is a good idea. DVDs are 720x480 and unless CloneDVD does upscaling while it rips, then you will gain no improvement in quality over the original source if you rip at 1024x768.

EDIT: I thought I should also add one more tip as well that may be helpful to others. My Touch Pro 2 and several other Windows Mobile and Android phones from HTC natively support h264 and mp4 just like the Playstation 3 and the iPad. So I can also use the PS3 profile in ClonDVD to rip movies for playback on my Touch Pro 2. Since my phones screen is 800x480 resolution, I can also enjoy the DVDs in their full resolution as well. The only difference I have to do is lower the quality to medium (I think around 15 or so) to get smooth playback since it has a 528mhz CPU. I still have to rip a second copy of a movie whenever I want to watch it on my phone, but it is extremely easy to do with the PS3 settings. I don't use the Windows Mobile profile as it saves the video as wmv which does not have hardware acceleration in windows mobile. I can play much higher resolution videos in h264 than I can with wmv.

Alright... one big problem people have been missing is that these iPad profiles are encoding in MPEG4 and not H.264.

Here's a morphed profile from AppleTV and iPod formated with the limits of the iPad and encoded in H.264.

Code:
[iPad H264 AVC]
Manufacturer=Apple (iPod/iPhone/AppleTV)
useMencoder=1
ScreenRatio=4:3
SubTitle=1
Res1=320x240
Res2=512x384
Res3=640x480
Res4=720x540
Res5=1024x768
ResAna1=320x180
ResAna2=426x240
ResAna3=512x288
ResAna4=640x360
ResAna5=720x404
ResAna6=1024x576
ARate=48000
ABRate=160
Format=lavf
lavfopts=format=ipod
lavcopts=aglobal=1:vglobal=1:vcodec=libx264:coder=1:acodec=libfaac
FileType=m4v
Quality=23
MaxVBitrate=2500
ThreadCount=off
x264params=level=3|nocabac|keyint=240|min-keyint=24|ref=3|mixed-refs|bframes=0|subme=6|no-ssim|no-psnr|me=umh|trellis=2|partitions=p8x8,b8x8,i4x4,i8x8|filter=-1,-1

I tested this with the 43 second THX clip (Title 9 on my Avatar DVD-9 source) and it looks pretty amazing in my opinion. I can't see any visible difference with 720x404 versus 1024x576 at least at 2500kbps from the iPad itself.

However, when testing the MPEG4 format, I believe I saw artifacting at 720. As noted, the iPad wouldn't accept 1024 with MPEG4 as it is outside of the resolution limits for MPEG4.

My filesizes were:

13.9MB on 1024 h.264
13.5MB on 720 h.264
12.5MB on 720 MPEG4

If anyone has any other suggested changes for that profile, please do share.

Cheers!
