Hey guys,
My HD-DVD/bluray combo LG drive is finally (but slowly) dying. I've gotten some read errors lately. I'm soon gonna be in the market for a new drive.
I see 10x and now 12x drives. Some of them though advertise 8x read speeds for BD-ROM, plus at least the LG drives are rip-locked to 4.8x. I'm not sure if this (the 8x limit) can be "fixed" with the likes of MediaCodeSpeedEdit. That would be awesome. The 10x LG reads BD-R discs at up to 10x, but not BD-ROM (SL), even with MCSE apparently.
So, do you guys know or are using any drive that can read faster than 8x, even if you have to use MCSE? I'm not quite sure how they can read BD-R at 10x but not BD-ROM though, if not for a firmware limitation, and if so, I wonder why MCSE doesn't make the drive read up to the 10x limit in the LG case above.
