I doubt that is possible with either a cable or satellite DVR.

I do know for a fact that one can real time record the output of a DVR via component out and audio/optical out into a Hauppauge HD PVR (see link)

at up to 1080i quality as H.264 hard drive files.

A product such as Nero 12 can process the H.264 files into ones ready to burn to either blu ray or dvd media.
