As of 6/1/2011, is it still legal to backup copy protected DVDs that you own in the United States?

As far as I know you bought it you own it if you sold the copies to make money then that will definitely be illegal. But for your own backup there is such a law called Fair Use that will suffice for your backup need.

Is AnyDVD legal in the US?

How would they know you have it? Cause they would have to raid the company office to get that information and since US doesn't own or regulate that company they are ranting words they don't have the authority to say or do. If they want to enforce their laws onto other nation or countries then the US should follow suite and follow those nations laws as well. And you can see where that will be going the US will cry fowl for having to follow those countries law but say nothing whey try to force other nations to follow the US laws. That to me is a double standard. So I say if you already have it use.

It hasn't been since 1998, when the Digital Millenium Copyright Act was signed into law.

And the pirates are shaking in their boots??? I highly doubt that has any meaning to them. They will just pop up somewhere else. DCMA is a hypocritical law in itself and serve no good or meaning purpose but to denial the artists money the studios keep for themselves that's how it is GREED for the studios. Also lets say they bought it and backup the DVD for themselves and make no profits from it but to safe guard the original from damage. Which most if not all on here do to preserve their precious original from damages. If your DVD/BD gets damage from normal use does the studio warranty a replacement NO they rather have you buy a new one for probably more then what you bought it in previous year and still have the same stuff on it. Now tell me how is that really beneficial to ones' wallet?? Nada zlitch...zero....

Not sure where you're located, but in the UK the cost of a Video DVD drops after a few months/years after it's initial release.

As an example, I purchased Casino Royale for £9.99. On Amazon.co.uk, it is now £4.58. That is almost half price.

You must be purchasing from the wrong retailers, Recycle.
