avm format

(The format is amv not avm as in the title, sorry)
I was just curious if this product can be used for converting avi or dvds to amv format.
I had never heard of this until buying a chinese mp4 player for my daughter
and it is amv.
there is a free converter on the internet, but it takes forever to convert with so i was wondering if this would work and also if it was quicker.(the other one took 12 hours and was only 46% done with a 700mb file when i turned it off)

Have a look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMV_video_format. Apparently there's no documentation available for this format nor could I find any reference to it in the mencoder doco http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/man/en/mplayer.1.html (mencoder is the utility used by CD-M to encode the DVD into the required format).
