Evan Almighty and 28 Weeks Later

Ok here's whats happening.. I've been using anyDVD for a while now and havent had any problems. I just built a new PC this week and this is my first backup since building the PC - I also havent tried a backup since updating AnyDVD to 6.1.8.4.

I make my backups like normal however now my stand-alone says "Playback isnt available on this disc." Hmmm.. I tried Grey's Anatomy Season 3 that I backed up last week and it played just fine.. the only difference is it was on my laptop and that I upgraded from AnyDVD 6.1.7.4 to 6.1.8.4. - AND I'm backing up with DVDShrink 3.2

Here's what I have - I'm running two Lite-On SATA DVD drives (one being an RW). I have a dual boot OS (tried backing up under both - same results) of XP Pro SP2 and Vista Home Premium x64. I'm using the exact same media that I backed up my other movies with DVD+R.

Do the backups play in your computer?

First, if the backup is playing in a standalone dvd player or on your computer, that means Anydvd and whatever backup program you used worked.

The most common reason why you're having this problem (if the backup doesn't work in a standalone dvd player) is due to a compatibility issue between the blank media you're using and whatever you're using to play the backup in (standalone dvd player, for example). Basically your dvd player, dvd-rom drive, etc. doesn't like the blank media you're using (or if you're using +R media, you didn't change the booktype to "dvd-rom"). You can try choosing other blank media (+r instead of -r, for example, and change the booktype to "dvd-rom")--or buy a different standalone dvd player (or a different dvd-rom drive, burner, etc.).

If you're using dvd-r media and your standalone dvd player gives you a message similar to ""Play Prohibited, please check disc", use dvd+r media instead and change the booktype to "dvd-rom" (see "b)" below).

a) Are you using junk blank media? If you're not using Taiyo Yuden 8x premium, Verbatim, Maxell Plus, or Maxell Broadcast Quality, then chances are the answer to this question is "yes".
b) Click this and read FULLY (especially take a look at point 4 for more information on bitsetting/booktyping, but all points are very important)

The same factors also apply to why the backup doesn't play in your computer (but there can be other factors including buggy or poorly installed dvd player software, bad drivers, etc.).

It's also possible the playback device/player you're using is slowly dying.

Ok I said in the post that my standalone plays grey's anatomy season 3 which I copied last week.. nearly all of my backups are on +R - it plays them fine. The new backups (Evan and 28 wks) are also +R. I made sure that the DVD-Rom booktype was selected before hand. It was.
Yes they play in the PC but not the standalone.. thats what I'm not getting. My standalone plays my other backups though...

You need to read this slowly, and click on links when it tells you to. This issue has absolutely nothing to do with Anydvd. There's no special protection on either disc, and lots of people have made backups of both of these dvds with Anydvd.

Are you using quality media(verbatim or Ty)? Have you changed brands of media? Can you put your older DVDRW into the new PC to see if the problem persists?
