Windows 2000 Professional Compatibility

Microsoft must have been giving false information out then.

Maybe you're right. Here they say, XP SP1 or SP2 must be installed:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/322389

But I can't remember, that I ever installed any other service packs before SP3.

Anyway, all Windows XP updates / service packs are still available via Microsoft's update catalog:
http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com

Type "XP service pack" (with the quotes) in the search box.

Thank you, James.

I still own a legit copy of Windows XP Pro (32 bit) that I have with some of my older programs, like Windows 98 SE, Office 2000, and Office XP.

Maybe I'll install them on a virtual machine, and prevent the 2 OSes (Win 98, Win XP) from accessing the Internet.

Both SP1 and SP2 have to be installed before SP3 and there may be other updates between the SPs that have to be installed before each service pack can be installed. Best way is through Windows Update on the PC with WinXP and then after all updates are done just keep disconnected from the internet. The service packs are going to each be pretty big. Not sure if they can still be download .iso of the service packs anymore. I used to have a WinXP PC before it stopped working I just happen to burn the .iso of SP1, SP2 & have the official disc for SP3.

I'm pretty sure I used to install SP1a and then SP3. There may have been other updates needed to help pthings along but not SP2.

@James
Maybe you installed/reinstalled Windows XP from a Windows XP-CD-slipstream including the SP3, or SP2.

I'd have a Windows XP 32 Bit Pro-Edition iso (Corperate) with SP3 slipstream. But I don't think it would be allowed to give it to anyone, even after end of Microsoft support, would it ?:(
But he just wants to update it to SP3, not reinstall, anyway.

from Webster’s Third New International Dictionary (unabridged) :

great \ adj. : WONDERFUL, ADMIRABLE - used as a generalized term of enthusiastic approval < it's freakin' ~ that James created a legacy extender build tool to continue AnyDVD HD support for Windows 2000 Professional and XP SP0! >

(…okay, I may have tweaked the definition’s example just a little.)

Thank you, James. Very nice.
