I read that Dvd -R is most compatible with stand-alone dvd players so why use Dvd +R and booktype to Dvd-Rom?

    That's not true.

    Because "dvd-rom" is the most compatible . . .

i believe that out of dvd -r and dvd +r that -r is indeed the most compatible. but once you set the booktype on a dvd+r to dvd rom then it becomes the most compatible. dvd rom is what all original commercial movies are set as, so almost all standalone dvd players will not have a problem.
