Usually it's improvements to for example disc burning strategies, add support for new mediatypes. However in this case, that's an uhd friendly drive. The last issued firmware closes that gap and renders the drive non-friendly for uhd.
So if you're at uhd disc owner, and you're NOT on the latest firmware, DO NOT update to it or you WILL render it non-friendly.

I guess they have to patch it to appease the AACS LA or their drive will get blacklisted from future commercial HD disc releases via media key block.
