AnyDVD does a great job of getting VOB files to my Hard Drive, and CloneDVD does a great job of copying DVD->DVD. But what tool should I use to convert the VOB on my HD to WMV format so that it will show up in my Media Center PC and stream through my Xbox360 in the family room?

(or any other format that Windows MCE/extender supports? I figure WMV is the safest bet)

Free or Paid software is fine - thanks for any recommendations :D

I checked the winavi website, it mentions nothing about supporting VOB->foo conversions. Are you sure it can do it? I find it pretty unlikely or they would have mentioned it.:(

it supports it, i would have shown you with the cursor hoovering over the option & showing what it converts from, but i'm unsure on how to do it just now :D

download the trial, it will be water marked but you'll get the idea on what it does.

also just found out you can set it to PAL, NTSC or AUTO

I use winavi as well to convert to vob. The only problem is that sometimes the resulting video is choppy. Also using winavi to convert to vob I have had problems burning the vob to a disk using clonedvd. Most of the time all I get is coasters. So be warned.

I have not found a program that is %100 reliable. Some just take to long to do the conversion, others make files that will not work with anything.

I have not used winavi to convert from vob to wmv.

If you can wait, SlySoft is planning to support WMV (see http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=326).

Now if you need it now, I use RiverPast's VideoCleaner (http://www.riverpast.com). It converts just about any format to any format. I haven't any any issues or choppiness. There are so many converters that work well - you just have to test them to see which one works for you.

Finally, some DVDs will result in multiple WMV files (its due to the DVD encoding). If you want to always have 1 WMV for each DVD, then check http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=344

Thanks T-F, that's really helpful! :D

That really is good news!

Will that be apart of clonedvd mobile only? Or will it also be part of clonedvd.

Now, will it convert wmv to vob?

I know the reasons why most video is offered in the wmv format, but to me that is worthless. I like to burn to dvd's and watch them on my home dvd player.

It seems that WinAVI Video Converter can convert vob to wmv.
