Found this on cd freaks, which I believe might be interesting.
Are you ready for some news about Toshiba and competing with the Blu-ray format? No, it's not a joke, and they won't bring HD DVD back. However according to the Japanese media the company will be competing with Blu-ray again. Well, it promises Blu-ray like video quality. The information comes from uncited sources at Toshiba.
It seems that it is no more than an upscaling DVD player as the general press talks about technology that will be backwards-compatible with standard DVD discs and is based on a chip that is able to produce much higher-resolution images from existing DVDs
However, upscaling DVD players are already available on the market and according to the sources Toshiba would start sales of the DVD player within six months at a much lower price than a Blu-ray player.
What do you think, is this ordinary upscaling or has Toshiba something new on their sleeve?
