Speed control does not work on Pioneer 106d

Hello!

I have a Pioneer 106D Dvd burner and really wants to use speed control (to use it with my HTPC). I have selected slow & quiet but it does not work (any of the settings does not change the read speed). Has anyone had similar problems and solved them?
