Is there a simple plain good DVD player for XP that doesnt have fancy splash screens, fancy controls, takes forever to load, lots of bloated add-ons that I dont need?

For example, with Anydvd, can VLC (an utterly spartan media player) play standard dvd's?

Yes.

VLC, KMPlayer, etc.
 
Great I've been using KMP for a couple a years now and I didn't realize that it supports DVD Playback.
