Here is the problem. When I play back in 3 different DVD players it will play fine till it gets half way thru then it will slow down so it playes slow or it will stop and start. I use Verbatim and Memorex DVD's I know you say Memorex are crap but they have worked great in the past so now I am trying Verbatim but same problem with them also.

1. Update to 6.4.7.5: http://sandbox.slysoft.com/beta/SetupAnyDVD6475.exe

Avoid. Do not use. Use this stuff, and expect problems

Verbatim DL Singapore

Only use this or MAM-A +R DL 8x.

Here is the problem. When I play back in 3 different DVD playersit will play fine till it gets half way thru then it will slow down so it playes slow or it will stop and start

So errors increase in your burns right around the layer break position

2. Ensure that booktype is being set before burning using your Lite-on booktype utility

3. Select a 2.4x write speed

4. Provide an Anydvd .zip log file with an original movie dvd in your burner.

4. Try another burner. Yours may be slowly dying. Often one of the first signs of a slowly dying burner is that it can no longer burn +R DL properly.

Here is log file for the disc

Also all of my burners are set to burn to ROM but one that is a Plextor. I have tried to burn this on 4 burners and still not right.

Thanks for the help

P.S. I have not updated to the new Beta Anydvd yet but I will in a few mins

Also all of my burners are set to burn to ROM but one that is a Plextor.

The two drives you've listed so far are Lite-ons.

I have tried to burn this on 4 burners

Using that Memorex junk? And using what burn speed?

The bottom is something isn't right around the layer break position (so it's likely a bad burn issue either caused by your burners or you're running across bad blanks). Bad burns are fairly notorious around the layer break position.

I've got about 10 burners here, and I use Clonecd exclusively. I cannot reproduce this problem.

1. Do the burned discs play in your computer?

2. Download Nero cd-dvd speed. It's a free program. Select the tab labeled "scandisc". Insert the problematic backup disc, select the appropriate drive letter, and click "start". If Nero cd-dvd speed reports read errors, your backup is bad (which is the most likely case), your optical drive may be slowly dying, or your optical drive simply doesn't like the disc (or your choice of blank media)--even if the disc looks fine.

Bad burn quality is notorious around the end of discs
and also at layer breaks when using low quality DL media (use Verbatim +R DL media made in Singapore or MAM-A 8x +R DL, and change the booktype to "dvd-rom")

Using the Nero CD-DVD Speed

at 50.2% there is 99.7% good and .3% bad maybe half of this batch is bad. The drives have worked great with no problems until now. Then at 50.3% it is at .7% bad and 99.2% good. I say this one is bad at Layer break. I will try the other burners in the system and lat you know. Also some of the burned ones will play and some will not. Can a disc be checked before it is burned? Sorry I did not say that I'am burning at 2.4 with Discs that are rated 2.4 and 4 with discs rated 8

If any percentage is showing read errors, no matter how small, then you've produce bad burns. The question is why.

Could the problem be the blanks? Yes. Avoid Memorex like the plague. They do not make their blank media, and they outsource to the lowest bidder. I wouldn't touch Memorex with a 10 foot pole. The stuff they sell is far too variable in quality.

Could the problem be your Verbatim +R DL made in Singapore. Possibly, but far less likely than the Memorex . . .

Could you have burned at the wrong speed? Possibly I don't know. Use a 2.4x burn speed if necessary. Definitely don't burn higher than 4x.

Could the problem be your burners? Possibly. One drive you linked is from 2005, and the other one I think is older (I could be wrong; I can't remember at the moment). All optical drives do slowly die over time and with use.

But whatever is going on, you're producing bad burns.

Can a disc be checked before it is burned?

Sure. If it says "Memorex" on the label, don't buy it. ;)

Otherwise, no, not really

I think you fixed it

First I want to thank you for all the help that you have given me with this problem. It looks like the problem was a bad patch of DVDs not the whole patch but half of them I opened and new one and all looks and works fine. I have burned 4 so far and all is good. Thanks once again.

Send the faulty blanks back. Don't let companies get away with ripping you off.
