Several times, after exiting GJ 3214, my cd/dvd drive is missing. It does not show up anywhere in Windows XP. Restarting, does not cure the problem. I have to do a system restore. Is there a way to get the drive back without doing a restore?

Typically deleting the device from device manager and rebooting should resolve issues like that. If it doesn't that points to either a hardware failure or ide busmaster driver issue (if you're using ide drives) or possibly a motherboard chipset driver issue (if you're using sata drives).

For XP with ide optical drives,

Missing CD/DVD Drive

The Drive shows up in System BIOS (CMOS), so it's not a hardware issue. Do you know what GJ does to hide the CD/DVD Drive from the protection software? I tried deleting and reinstalling the drive, but that did not work. I'll try what you suggested about the bus controller next time it happens.

Thanks

I didn't say it was a hardware issue.

When you reboot your system, your optical drives appear, right?

a) If it doesn't then, download imgburn. It's a free program: click http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
(it's also an excellent program imo).

b) Go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order. Click "Clipboard". Then paste the information you pasted into your clipboard into your next post (ctrl-v).

The next time it happens, I'll follow your instructions and send the info to you.

Your Clonecd installation is corrupt. Choose one of the following options:

1. Use imgburn to delete that entry from your registry and reboot.

  • Create a backup of your registry. Refer here for how to do so.
  • Download ImgBurn (freeware).
  • Start ImgBurn and go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order...
  • Select "ElbyCDFL". Click Remove Selected Filter. Click OK.
  • Reboot.

Clonecd still won't work on your system, but your optical drive will appear in Windows now.

Or

2. Reinstall Clonecd (and reboot). Your drive will come back. And Clonecd will work.

You have a Clonecd entry, ElbyCDFL, listed in your registry's filter stack--but the corresponding driver file (ElbyCDFL.sys) for it is no longer on your hard drive. Under those conditions, Windows will make all your optical drives go *poof*.
