My drive will read all regular movies and backups, but will not read documentaries like nova or nationalgeographic. It will not even find a disk in the drive. But put ANYTHING else in the drive and it will read it.

Thanks for help in advance.

hmmm

Are those PC-playable discs?
If there is no file system on them then Windows will not "see" the content.
And w/o Windows telling the rest of the machine "found a disc" you can't spin a wheel with those. This is certainly not a using software issue.

Playable disc

The disc in question are DVD's that I am or want to back up. As stated, regular movies DVD's no problem with recognizing a "disc in drive" or making backup or riping by anysoftware. But with the documentary dvd's, I can play them in my dvd player on tv but my computer does not recognize anything in drive. I can hear my optical drive making noise scanning but it never finds the disc?! Then I can take the documentary out and put in ANY movie and it finds the disc.... help

Other computer works

I have tested the dvd disc in another computer and it finds the disc no problem. What is wrong with my settings for my drive?

Just got a different national geographic dvd and drive does not find disc.....?! But, just backed up marvels ironman the cartoon just fine. I dont understand????

I replaced the drive and that immediately solved the problem.

Sometimes certain drives are picky about certain types of discs and once you throw in the possibility of borderline discs then things become very annoying. Nonetheless, I'm glad this has resolved your problem. It's definitely a pain when dealing with read issues.
