I recently purchased a Samsung SH-S203N SATA drive, connected to a PCI-to-SATA expansion board (PNY model P-DSA150-PCI-RF). I had success with DVD Decrypter with an older Lite-On PATA drive. Neither DVD Decrypter nor AnyDVD (says drive is disabled) will recognize the new drive now. Running either locks the PC up, requiring a forced re-boot. The drive otherwise functions normally, reading and writing.

Being that the drive and card were the only change I made, is that issue? Does AnyDVD not recognize because of the connection to the card?

I have that burner in a Vista Ultimate 64 bit system, and the burner works perfectly fine. However, it's not connected to an expansion board.

If other programs besides Anydvd do not recognize this drive, you are probably experiencing some sort of driver issue or bios issue.

One thing I can do is see if there are any conflicting drivers listed in your filter stack:

a) Download imgburn. It's a free program: click http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
(it's also an excellent program imo)

b) Go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order. Click "Clipboard". Then paste the information you pasted into your clipboard into your next post (ctrl-v).

zebadee has one of these cards too if I remember right Web.

The card would appear to be OK.

I have the same drive zebadee has the 203B without LS but it is the same. If I see him I'll ask him to pop in as I believe he uses one of these types of cards as well if I remember right.

Meanwhile remove those bad filter by uninstalling the drag to disc and musc matchbox as well.

Will do on the MusicMatch, it's a old version anyway. I don't see Sonic installed anywhere (Add/Remove Programs; Start, Program Files; C:\Program FIles). What's the best way to get rid of that particular filter?

It does have Lightscribe capability.

Yeah, I was just mentioning that I wasn't sure if Zebadee has the lightscribe version. I do have the exact same burner as you.

You have some packet writing junk on your system that needs to be removed.
Sonic's Drag-to-disc should definitely be uninstalled. Packet writing software interferes with a lot of other software, not just Slysoft's If you need drag-and-drop functionality, use dvd-ram instead (with a FAT file format), which is more stable.

Musicmatch is also known to cause problems

1. i) Create a backup of your registry
ii) Download imgburn. It's a free program: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
(it's also an excellent program imo)
iii) Go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order. Select "Cdralw2k". Click "Remove Selected Filter. select "CDR4_XP". Click "Remove Selected Filter". Select "MxlW2k". Click "Remove selected filter". Click "ok".
iv) Reboot

Keep in mind the programs that installed those filters will no longer function properly.

2. Use Anydvd 6.4.0.3 beta: click http://sandbox.slysoft.com/beta/SetupAnyDVD6403.exe

No luck. I thought I had success when trying DVD Decrypter (I got past the Authenticating...), but it hung when trying to process the first file.

AnyDVD still locks up the system - I have to Restore back before it was installed.

I didn't fully un-install MusicMatch, just the filter. I confirmed all four filters that you suggested are gone.

Any more ideas?? I appreciate the help so far!:)

You really should not be using Decrypter. It can't handle all discs. You should be using Anydvd ripper.

Are you using Anydvd 6.3.0.4 beta?

If you had to restore, then those filters may be back.

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the PCI card that you're using. You may want to check for updated drivers.

Other than that, unfortunately, I am out of suggestions. You may want to try contacting Slysoft to see what they say: click http://www.slysoft.com/contact.html

I contacted zebadee on my forum via PM so hope he'll pop in when he ses it.

I was using Decrypter mainly as just another data point in troubleshooting the problem. I did check that the filters are gone (see below).

I did use the beta version you reccomended.

According to Slysoft, they won't reply to forms with blank fields. Everytime I install AnyDVD, it locks up my system, so I can't get a serial #.

They will. They may take a little longer, but they will.

O.k., well, according to what you posted Anydvd isn't installed on your system. But I suppose you had to uninstall it because you claim Anydvd locks up your system.

Does it lock your system at bootup?

Also what OS are you using? Service pack?

You may find updated drivers here: click http://www2.pny.com/support/support_landing_cat.aspx?SectionID=1156

I'll drop them a line.

It locks after I hit the Continue button on the license order window.

Win XP, SP2.

I'll give the drivers a shot too.

Turns out the existing drivers are the latest. I'll contact Slysoft.

Update:

I've discovered (rather embarrassed about this) that I am unable to "play" DVDs. Slysoft is looking into this. Will update further when I find out more.

Do you have playback software on your system?

a) Keep your license key file backed up safely
b) Uninstall Anydvd (start-->all programs-->Slysoft--->Anydvd-->Uninstall)
c) Reboot
d) Put a commercial dvd in your Samsung. Check to see if your system ("my computer") now reports a disc in drive. Do you see a video_ts folder (if you're using a dvd)? Do you see folders or files?
