Note that on the DVD there were also structures for 12 through 26 (VTS_xx) that are not present on the HDD directory. When played from the hard disk drive image the copywrite warnings are displayed, then a Lionsgate logo segment, then all is black.

Are you using a licensed player such as Powerdvd to play the hard drive folder created when you "ripped DVD to Hard Disk"?

I am using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit Media Center, which has had no problems playing AnyDVD ripped movies over the last many years. Note also the obvious lack of data given the size of the VOB files generated by the attempt to rip the disk. I installed a DVD drive in the Media Center last evening in an attempt to play the disk natively. There was a problem about halfway through the third preview that locked it up. Using the Media Center remote to jump to the DVD menu immediately upon disk startup allowed the movie to play. Based on this, it may just be a defective disk as opposed to any copy protection variants.

Your disc and / or drive is dirty and / or defective.
