I just purchased OPPO UDP-203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player US$ 549.00. The reason I purchased it is that they are Cinivia free and no plans in the future to add that.

The Oppo UDP-203 adheres to Cinavia. Did you buy one with custom firmware that is bypassing Cinavia?

Page 4 of the official Oppo UDP-203 manual:

It may be possible that like the Oppo BDP-10x series Blu-ray players that Cinavia is only enforced when on optical media and ignored in portable formats but the blanket statement that the player doesn't detect/enforce Cinavia and never will is simply incorrect.

At some point, we will likely see third-party hardware region-free mods like we've seen with previous Oppo players. Maybe someone could somehow work something into a mod to bypass Cinavia. Who knows but the wait for the hardware mods will be awhile and no idea if a Cinavia bypass will ever exist on that level.

Where did you find that the OPPO UDP-203 adheres to Cinivia? I bought the newest model without any modifications because they do not adhere to Cinivia. I just ordered it this past week and it should arrive this coming week. As soon as I get I will be testing it with that purpose in mind. A link to look at about Cinivia and Oppo 203 . http://cinaviafix.com/blurayplayers-list/

Oppo's website: http://oppodigital.com/blu-ray-udp-203/blu-ray-udp-203-Support.aspx

Download and read the user manual. Table of Contents lists the Cinavia Notice which is located on Page 4. It's in the manual. If the player is a licensed player then it is required to detect and enforce Cinavia as per the requirements of licensing.

Furthermore, Movie fix is bunk. The listing of players with Cinavia detection is seriously outdated.

You are spot on about your statement. I hate to say this but the owners manual page 4 does says the Oppo- 203 uses Cinivia. My Bad!!

It's already been done for Panasonic Blu-ray standalone players.

bluraychip.dk chips are hiqh quality!
They used to have an extended version for the OPPO-93 and -95.
Have it in both my OPPO standalones, just press 1 2 or 3 to set region.
The simpler chip need a few more press on remote to set region.
Had issues with one of the chips and Casper just sent me a new working one in a week, so support is very good.
Highly recommended for OPPO users!

I have numerous DIY mods from Bluraychip.dk, myself. Some people have had issues but my interactions with Casper have been great in the instances where I had a need to communicate with someone.

Personally, I prefer the easier and quicker region switching from the past Pro versions but I'm sure I could live with the basic one. Pricing is good, as well.

In case anyone still wonders; The UDP-203 will recognize Cinavia in any audio, be it media files or discs. The only exception is the HDMI input where Cinavia is currently ignored. This is required for any player to get a UHD license.
