Forget what I wrote. I confused the setting with the "aggressive I/O" checkbox.

Somehow the thread dropped the 'fix', unless it's really still not working (I get the same thing on 8.1.8.0).

I usually wait a couple of releases into the future unless I hit something that stalls out, just in case some wierd thing happens (like this where the optical drives dissapear).
I guess when I get some 'free' time I'll try a complete uninstall of anydvd and go from there; I rolled back to an earlier version just like you and it worked fine.
