First off i am using the newest versions of clonedvd & anydvd my old drives were getting old so i went out and bought two LG internal/GH22 burners that burn at the possible top speed of 22x for a dvd-r.

But of course i never burn faster than the disc speed, i always use sony discs and in the clonedvd option i lower the speed to 16x and before i could copy a movie from anywhere between 15 to 25 minutes depending on how much was on the disc now last night with the new LG burners i have the clone dvd options set to 16x and it took 1 hour and 14 minutes to burn saw 6 and 1 hour 12 minutes to record the hills run red.

What am i doing wrong here, these are newer faster drives and it's taking soo long can anyone help me with the tech side of this problem ?

well for starters how fast a drive can burn is mainly set by 2 factors, 1 the firmware and the media used. Each media contains several "descriptors" that identify at wich speeds it can be burnt safely. I'd try instead of setting Clone to 16x, to set it to MAX. Always does the trick for me.

update :(

I set the clone dvd to max but nothing, here are caps of all my settings maybe these can help. Before it took me 16 minutes to record the hills run red but now it takes 1 hour 14 minutes

Blank media depends on the case as well not just the settings. If your drive will burn at 24x but the blank media only will be written at 12x then max is 12x just to give an example.

i only use sony discs that burn at 16x and i never go above that speed.
There has to be another issue here, i checked the long how to directions for clone dvd and nothing solves this issue

The drive is very likely rip locked. Search for a firmware update.

That maybe true, but riplock has nothing to do with encoding or burning. Riplock affects READ speed only.

And that would not extend his overall time? Is op's problem only slow burning speed?

from what the OP states yes.

the new LG burners i have the clone dvd options set to 16x and it took 1 hour and 14 minutes to burn saw 6 and 1 hour 12 minutes to record the hills run red

from what the OP states yes.

These are IDE Drives
The times are slower than PIO
(? been a very long time since I actually ran in PIO )

I would recheck the Installation
Double check the Pin settings ( M/S/C-SEL )

Uninstall the Drives and IDE channel through the Device Manager
- and Reboot
> Reboot again

Let's start : From the Beginning
RE Check your Installation
This might save some tail chasing ... later

Are you using an 80 wire IDE cable?
Yes , you really must be using an 80 wire IDE cable
As a general rule, I always install New Cables when Installing New Drives

If you have a "Round" Cable - then that would be an 80 wire

If your Computer was configured - Originally - as Cable Select
- You probably should keep it at Cable Select

RE Check your Installation

Use this Guide for reference :
http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=61905

Empty your CD/DVD Drives

Go to >
>> Start > Right Click on My Computer > Properties > Hardware Tab
>> Device Manager

Click the + to Open the IDE ATA ATAPI Controllers
Right Click on the IDE Channel > Properties > Advanced Tab

The First Primary IDE Should read @ Ultra DMA Mode 5 or UDMA6
This is Correct = It's your Hard Drive

> Either a Secondary IDE - OR - a 'Second' Primary IDE
Should have Two Devices ( DVD/CD Drives )
Each Device Should be reading Ultra DMA mode 2
( Depending on the DVD Drive - One might read : Ultra DMA mode 4 )
This would be the DVD Drive corresponding IDE Channel

Even though It may be 'reading' DMA correctly ;
Follow these instructions

> Go into your Device Manager
> UN install Any/ All DVD/CD Drives ( Yes , IF : Both Drives )
> Right Click on Drive > Select=UNinstall
#### Do not restart Yet #####
> UN install the DVD Drive corresponding IDE Channel
> Right Click on IDE Channel , Select=UNinstall

> Turn Your Computer OFF and then > UN Plug Power

Open Your Computer's Case
Use this Guide as Reference :
http://support.necam.com/Optical/NEC_DVD_CD_quickstartguide.pdf

Check BOTH Drives
>> Be Sure the the Proper Jumper Pin Configuration is being used .

JumperPins2 (968 x 490) (484 x 245).jpg JumperPins (903 x 535) (452 x 268).jpg

again - note :
If the Drives that came with the Computer
- had the Jumper Pins - originally Set to Cable Select
- You may want to Stay with Cable Select

and/ or / then :
Setting Both Drives as Cable Select -does Eliminate a lot of the 'guess work'

>> Check All Cable / Power Connections on your Drives - for a 'snug' Fit

After Rechecking the 'Jumper Pins' and 'Connections'
- Everything back together - and Re Checked
> Plug in your Computer > Restart > REboot again
